Whats peoples views on a 'replica', if done right, as a long-term ownership? Do you think you'd get your money back in 5-10 years on something like this...? Or could it be a money pit...

£70k

1973 911 2.7 RS Racecar Recreation with FIA HTP papers. Originally built by Bob Watson for Michael Rigg who raced the car throughout the mid and late 90's in the Porsche Classic/Club series and Intermarque where it won several overall championships. Michael sold the car in 2002 when it was acquired by its current owner, a long term friend of 911Virgin. Over recent years the car has competed sporadically due to the owner concentrating his efforts on pre 1965 historic racing. In 2012 the car was rebuilt in accordance with Appendix "K" in order to obtain FIA Historic Technical Passport Papers. All works were carried out by Steve Winter and his team at Jaz Porsche. Steve has actually known the car intimately for the last 11 years.

The engine was rebuild in 2010 and the car has not raced since. It produces 225 BHP and is in perfect order. At the same time the gearbox was stripped and checked, synchro's were replaced and the LSD preload was reset. The exhaust system (full race spec) is stainless steel with noise reduction caps fitted to the silencer. Caps can be removed if extra noise is desirable.

Bilstein racing dampers with Jaz custom valving, uprated torsion bars, original and particularly rare 18mm front roll bar as well as 18mm rear roll bar. Genuine RS trailing arms with the chassis modified to suit, the genuine arms make the car feel more stable in fast long corners.

Genuine magnesium front brake calipers with original rears running Pagid race pads and appropriate brake fluid in accordance with Appendix "K".

Complete respray by respected Porsche body specialists Sportwagen (Steel front wings and fibreglass front bonnet) as well as all new body rubbers and decals. The interior has all new lightweight carpet , lightweight RS seats (M471), new doorcards and 10,000 rpm rev counter.

Ready to race in a variety of series. (Masters, Tour Britannia, Tour Auto, Classic Sports Car Club to name but a few). The car is fully road legal with registration document and valid MOT certificate. Excellent early club racing provenance with a detailed and ordered history file.

A special car, beautifully set up and an absolute pleasure to drive. Charming and exhilarating in equal measure.

^^^Fecking LOVE it!

Speak to Tom at 911v. It was there for a while. In the flesh it is lovely. Not sure how comfortable on the road as it looked race ready. If it has been looked after by Steve at Jaz I would also speak to him too.

Pretty car would be nice to have just to look at...if money was not an option

Love it.

Your paying over because of the papers and history surely?

You could build a homage, something a LOT of fun for 50k.

thing is the homage at £50k is never going to see its money back though wouldn't you think?

a car built to appendix K is always going to be worth quite a bit to the racing crowd & you'd really struggle to build a perfect replica to that standard for £70k now.

personally i think you've taken the right path yourself with your SSE replica as it'll always be worth something even if it's never built to full RS spec (which as i'm sure you know would be massive money!)

mine is a 71 RS rep & Steve has worked some magic on it. Im not a fan of some of the sc or 3.2 replicas as they dont seem to sit quite right. but early 70's RS reps with this level of work gets the thumbs up from me

this is mine

Looks like fun Metsa,

Is that a large dent on the rear arch?

Sold my 2.4 rep for £6,000 in the mid nineties - no one wanted them then!

No dents. It's the lovely juicy metal RS arches, makes it look strange at certain angles.
Look's superb mate!

Are you missing the 996? I guess notsmile

It may not make its money back but if you just bought it to enjoy and keep for a very long time, it would hardly matter. I love the idea of a good rep and to hell with values - to these eyes, it is almost, if not more desirable than a GT/RS car.

Thanks, I agree to a point but what skews that is that there is so few decent pre 89 cars and prices seem to have gone up a lot even in the last year. Any decent cars are dealer cars and they are pushing prices up.

As a replica mine is now a 1100kg widebody car with great power, big brakes, refreshed components all round and sticky rubber.

Hard to beat as a fun package really!

i was a bit mean about my turbo, yes i do miss it a bit, surprised the dealer still hasnt moved it on and its stuck on his website still. this one lives in an outdoor carcoon which im pretty good at getting on and off quickly. much as i love the look and feel of this rs rep i am considering another change, so many cars to sample and so little time :-)

work near Twickenham live in Hertfordshire. The car will be in RPM most of the day on Monday if your local ish?
they are in Tring, im looking at thier 997 Turbo or a GT3. Otherwise it will be in Jaz later in the week for a few days, some of the suspension work on the 911V car has already been carried out and I am going the same way with the rear now. it will be really nicely sorted for track use. Next planned stop was Rollcentre for a half cage with harness bar and diagonal.drop me a pm if you want a quick look? as am just kicking around an idea and some spare money :-)
