I can't help but think that some fans deserve it, but then I think that most do not. I attend several football matches a season and it does seem to be getting worse.

BHA/Palace rivalry isn't particularly violent, say compared to Millwall/WestHam, Leeds/Anyone-else, Soton/Pompey etc.

I think that's why they're experimenting on these games, they will be relatively tame anyway so they can easily deem it a "success". Let's see them try the same when Millwall next play West Ham.....

It is by far a step too far. There was recent publicity about a young Hull fan who lived near Huddersfield who could/would not attend a match at Huddersfield because the only possible entry was via coach from Huddersfield.

He was going to launch legal action, not sure what happened - but good luck to him!

This is as bad as when Burnley played Blackburn.
Any Burnley fan who lived in Blackburn had to go to Burnley and get on a coach to the game. After the game he got back on the coach to Burnley, picked up his car and drove back to his home in Blackburn !!
This type of thing is done when we play the skates. It works but at what cost to the taxpayer and since when have we become a police state !
Freedom of movement will become harder to football matches in the future. Even now if you travel by coach or minibus the police have to be informed of your travel arrangements.
At Swansea coaches/minibuses are met at the Severn bridge and escorted to the ground. If you attempt to leave the caged area at the ground you will be arrested.
Sad times.

What laws are being used (abused?) to create these conditions of travel and kettling in grounds?

As private companies the clubs can put any conditions on entry - might be a bit shady once the game is over though as the fan will have no incentive to comply

I think that angry looking police dog or that bloke sitting on a horse is enough incentivehehe

I have on two occasions had to walk in the opposite direction to the one I wanted to which isn't a lot considering I have been attending games for thirty years. I just think that on a lot of occasions it al isn't necessary.

So if the fans are so disgusted by this, they'll vote with there feet and not play ball by not attending any of the away games.

Thus lumbering the home team with a massive police bill and less money to pay it.

I spose from the Police point of view they need to treat every single match as a potential 'it might kick off' and basically have a plan in place and staff in place for every single match regardless - even if it only kicks off in 1 match out of 3000 or whatever per year.

Its no surprise they want to have as much control/minimise risk.
