PH articles on Turbo values
Discussion
Perhaps some views would help me with a conundrum.
We're looking at moving from a 996 C2 to a turbo. We're thinking of a top end, low miles, standard 996T or the S version. Values seem to be about £30 -£35k. The PH article implies 996T values are bottoming out but that 997T values have some way to go.
06/07 997T values seem to be about £40k. So a £5k-10k premium over a 996T seems a far gap (all things being equal - condition etc), so will 997T prices stabilise mid £30's. Seems hard to believe they will. If they fall to £30k or so in the next year, then surely 996T ones will have to fall best part of another £10k.
Don't worry, we'll be getting the car to enjoy, not to worry about depreciation. we only do about 5k miles a year, hence logic in getting a low mileage car as it'll stay that way. Personally I love the 996T, wife prefers the 997T and would be comfortable with the extra cost to buy.
Any thoughts?

A timely topic for me, I too am looking to buy a 996t. I really like that shape and want to get the best I can afford however once you get to the (on paper) nice 996t's you are only a few k less than an early 997t. Tbh I haven't been to look at or drive any yet, need to wait a couple of weeks for work to settle down then my hunt will begin in earnest. The decision I suppose is do you want to buy a really good 996 or a bottom end 997. I think I'm changing my mind about every 24hrs at the moment

I think common sense provails on this in terms of buying a bottom end 40k 997t and an upper end 30k 996t.
To me i'd go the latter and use the remainder of the money for something else especially if its a 3rd car for example.
I have had £40k+ cars sat in my garage doing nothing all year and it made me cringe.
I have recently sold a GT2 as to be perfectly honest i never used it. I have since bought a well sorted low mile early 996 Turbo which i use and put 15k in the bank.
I don't mind getting stone chips and thoroughly enjoy doing what i should have done years ago having owned 10 911's over the years and never really using them, just polishing.

Hmmmmmm I am thinking of buying a 997.1T at around 46/47k............ Should I not bother? Heart says yes...... Head is deliberating!!
Do it! I spent so long looking (18 months or so) that I almost gave up, but I found the right one and snapped it up. They are amazing cars.

Why wouldn't you drive the GT2 in the same way?To me i'd go the latter and use the remainder of the money for something else especially if its a 3rd car for example.

Surely buying a perfect condition, perfect history etc 996T in the long term is a much better idea than a bottom end 997T which will ultimately need more money spending on it and will still be depreciating heavily also??
Are the £40k ones bottom end though, or just early ones? Some have circa 30-40k miles, highly specced and seem properly cared for. I saw one in the flesh and couldn't find a fault (granted I'm not capable of proper inspection and didn't drive it). I suspect they will depreciate more, but that was the point of my first question, if they do, therefore surely so will 996Ts. All things being equal, I'm guessing most people would go for a 7 over a 6, (unlike earlier ones which have their classic following.

You won't go wrong with a 996 turbo, I have a 996 turbo X50 and it's a fantastic car. Only think I can see moving to would be a 997 GT3.
I've got both, I drive the 996t most days, hardly drive the the GT3. The turbo is much better suited to road driving, the GT3 is fabulous on track.
