I can recall not that long ago, watching Can-Am races during historic meetings and AMOC meetings at Silverstone and Brands.
Does anyone know whether these fantastic cars are being raced (or have plans for racing) in the UK at all?
I guess if not, the GFoS is the only place you are likely to see one - and that is hardly the venue to experience the spectacle properly.

If only
Group 7, as it was called, was outlawed in the UK by the RAC etc in 1966 as the cars were faster than F1 on most tracks. It then lived on in North America (CanAm) and Germany (InterSerie) until the early 70s.

Thank goodness for Historical Racing.

Thanks for the replies chaps - I was bowled-over by Can-Am when I used to marshal for Historics and the AMOC in the late 70's, (I well remember the late John Foulston and his McLaren) but have always thought it would be great to watch them race again.
Thanks for the link to the Orwell site - I'll keep an eye on that site for next year's events!

Always remember them at brands- 8 litre V8 v 8.8 litre V8.

Fantastic noise! Especially from the pit lane exit when they pull out onto the track!

One of the first historic race meetings I went to had a Can Am race. My abiding memory is the sheer noise as they acclerated away. I was deaf but very happy!

Anyone remember the Thundersports races of the 80's. McLaren M8's, Lola T70's, Chevron's, Tiga's absolutely awesome. Not quite as good as a full on Can-Am race but pretty close.

Biggest one I ever saw was a 9.1 litre McLaren at Donington a few years ago. Awesome cars

If ever you're in Germany, check out the Rosso Bianco Museum. They have a fair collection. Static only, sadly, 'cos you really need the noise
