Hi,

I test drove a new cayman s at the weekend. Very impressed apart from the pdk... I think user error put would like to share my experience and have some feedback as to what I was doing wrong.

When I drove the car in manual mode and I exited a corner in third and floored it it would change down to second which was very annoying. Why wouldn't it let me control in manual. I wanted to ride the torque in third not end up at 6000rpm in 2nd.

It appeared to do this what ever mode I was in, either normal, sport or sport plus.

Should'nt you have total control in manual mode (apart from preventing over rev which I understand)

Do they all do that?

There is a kick down switch at at 100% throttle, it's hard to explain but it's like a second stage or another 5% travel, if u don't hit that but still give it 100% if that makes sense then it won't change down

Like he said, you were stomping too hard.

Bugger.

I knew it was user error but could not suss it out. Salesman said that sport + would not do kick down but it did in any mode. Since found some instruction manuals on the net and understand.

Does the pdk system have any expensive extra servicing intervals?

Thanks

Gearbox oil needs changing, but I think it's either the same period or longer than the manual version.

I did this first time I test drove a PDK, lead feet. wink

You soon get use to the Kick down switch under the throttle and learn how to drive with it. smile

Did you have the gear lever in the manual position? I found that the car would kick down if I was using the paddles but was told that if the lever is in the manual position that this doesn't happen?

It does over-ride in manual mode.
