Fabulous.

The exciting roads start around an hour away for me, you really can't beat an early start and a blue sky.

This was last weekend.

Nice!! This is what I've been wanting to do for months now.

I see you're in Berkshire, so, how many miles? How much boring m-way before you get to some fun roads?

I did a Wales trip over Easter weekend and am a little further away from Berks but you are looking at 2 hours or so to get into the Brecons. More locally you can do roads in and around the Surrey Hills to the coast or go further west to Salisbury Plains area. There used to be a lot of runs organised on forum ...

I highly recommend it, it can be done in a day but the slog down the M4 is a poor way of putting miles on the car frown

I would suggest going mid-week though as the roads are a lot quieter. And the roads..... my god, the roads....

When I lived up North, I used to go and play around the evo triangle area, now I am in Berkshire, its easier for me to get to the Brecon Beacons area (and the Black Mountain Road)

Weather will play a BIG part in your enjoyment IMO

Arguably it is better when the weather is not so good, but not horrific, as the traffic is lighter ... I guess it depends on whether you want to drive or enjoy the scenery.

Went up yesterday evening and up again today (Brecon Beacons). Sunny + afternoon and although traffic's not heavy it can impede 'faster driving'. Best time is early morning, empty.

Best roads

A4069 (top gear black mountain route),

A4067 (Craig y Nos)

A4059 (Penderyn distillery)

A4061 (evo GT3 group test route)

All within 20miles of each other and interconnected, lots of smaller roads between them worth a look too.

Did them all today - slow day at work, clients extending their bank holdiday weekends was a blessing!
