looking to upgrade my speaker layout in my car. the problem is this. I would like to put a sub system in the boot only between the back seat and the boot is the fuel tank. it runs the width of the car and the height of the bulkhead. will it ruin the sound and therefore be a waste of money?
Also if it is going to be ok how does a pair of alpine SWR 1040's in a ported box sound? as new and i can get them for around £180.00

If the tank is right up against the back of the seat you may want to port the rear shelf to let the sound through , shouldnt take to long to wire the sub in the boot , try it and see what its like , most 17cm speakers (alpine dddrives) can drop to a very low frequency so you may not need a sub , just buy decent speakers and amp them up

I've seen an interesting system sometime ago; it's specially made for the Elise, but it would fit other sportscars as well:
