current employer given my cv
Discussion
How recent is the CV? If it is reasonably old then a play of rightous indignation that the agency have been passing your old CV found on line from last time you job hunted to a company without contacting you or even checking if you where looking. My CV that hasn't been updated for over a year still gets bites on job boards.

Hopefully the OP has not been using the company email system to send the CV out....
OP I would just listen to them and let them do all the talking
I would go in with my head held high, and tell it like it is. I would probably say that I was sending my C.V. out, in order to gauge how things are currently in the jobs market, in terms of remuneration for the role I was in etc. etc. etc. I find that honesty is the best policy with this type of situation. If you handle it well, you may even get a pay increase, and / or a better job with your current employer. If one of my chaps did something like this, and was up front with me, and they were worth keeping, I'd be inclined to view it as 'balsy' and negotiate a better deal with them.
Tell him, that about 6 months ago you were thinking of moving North for family reasons, and it resulted in a lot of interest from recruiters, but the family issue is now resolved and you just failed to take your CV off all the jobsites you put it on.
But now that he asks, the interest you had, made you believe that you were under valued and you'd like to discuss a better package.
