V8s battery light stays on

My v8s battery light has stayed on on the dashboard today after turning off the engine. This has now resulted in a flat battery. Any ideas please as to why this has happened and how to turn off light?

My guess would be it's time to go shopping for a new alternator?

My guess would be a failed rectifier diode in your alternator.
As Phillpot says, time for a new alternator.

thanks - it appears to be a regulator for the alternator -so its booked in for a new alternator.

Deeman - they are 'BK Racing' 5 spoke alloys which a previous owner must have fitted

Buy some spanners and do it yourself (money saved on labour will pay for them), ten minute job and alternator probably a lot cheaper from somewhere like EuroCarParts than what a garage will charge for one?

Repair the unit yourself. It only requires minimal skill with a soldering iron and some basic tools. You can pickup repair kits for a lot less than a replacement unit.

You can change just the regulator without even removing the alternator.
