Probably a subject which has been done heavily on PH, but to save me a scan through old forums and to gauge peoples thoughts on something specific to my car........I have a manual 04 plate 996 turbo with only 19K miles on it, in perfect and original condition - bought recently from my mate. I usually only keep my cars 12 months max. I'm tempted to get it properly tuned by a reputable Porsche specialist to develop around 500 bhp, rather than the standard 420 bhp. Couple of questions though;

1. Do people think that this would de-value an otherwise very original car? In that it will probably only have 25-27K miles on it when I come to sell. I'll accept the money spent on the upgrade would be lost, but I wouldnt want it to reduce its price against it in original 420 bhp form, as people strive for a low mileage original cars

2. I have never chipped a car before, but I'm led to believe these are quite common these days and 'safe' in terms of engine life/extra wear - generally agree?

thanks in advance......

Give a reputable company such a Fearnsport at Silverstone a call. My GT2 had one of their remaps. It can easiy be returned to standard if you want to move the car on. You'll have to ask them about how detectable etc it is.

I think it would reduce its value, especially on a very low miles car.

Enthusiasts are willing to pay a premium for a standard original car with low miles.

How much though I don't know. There is a market for chipped turbos, it's just that its smaller than the market for originality.

MTR said it right....if you tune it when you come to sell it, put it back to its original state especially if you change the exhaust/cats etc. A friend tuned his 996t & put it back to stock with the exception of the remap & sold on the upgrade exhaust etc separately. Good luck with your tuning quest!
