Heavy Clutch on C2S 997.1
Discussion
Hi all
When I bought my car a couple of years ago it had the heaviest clutch I ever experienced. About 3 months in the clutch needed replacing (the whole clutch system), and the OPC did this all for free. When I got the car back the clutch pretty much felt like the same weight as before.
Recently I had to have the water pump replaced under warranty, and was driving a 'normal' car (Hyundai i30) while it was being fixed. I got the beast back today and I the clutch just feels so stiff and heavy until I got used to it again. My mate who owns a standard 997 also said it's heavier than usual, and his certainly feels much lighter than mine.
Now interestingly on the health check report the OPC did for me today, it mentioned heavy clutch, but nothing too out of the ordinary so as to warrant any work done. My question is should the clutch be so heavy on the Carrera S, and if the whole clutch unit was replaced less than two years ago would this not have affected how the clutch felt? Also is the heavy clutch a sign of anything that needs work?
I have a knee injury and it's starting to get irritated as I need to do prolonged driving for work now, so I have been thinking if there any way the OPC can 'lighten' the pedal or is this just normal for my model of 911?
Thanks
P

One of my biggest issues with my old 997.1S was the heavy clutch, like you I also had the clutch replaced including the slave cylinder.... Didn't make much difference though, this was the main reason I went for PDK, even the clutch in the manual 981 was unacceptably heavy to me, go sit in a GT3RS though, that'll make you feel better about yours

I had the same issue with my 997.1 s I actually started to dislike driving it as a daily driver because b/c the clutch was just too hard to depress... When I switched to the M3 DCT am sure it affected the decision process...
That said, I was then invited at the launch of the GTS and was quite looking forwrd to driving the PDK one.. Only to be pleasently surprised by the manual version! Clutch was much lighter than my .1 S but as precise and feelsome.. Basically I came to the conclusion that mine was probably on the way out and should have been replaced before going for an M3 :-)
I was indeed told that usually it's a sign of a tired clutch but if yours has been replaced alltogether it might be something else. Anyway, the bottom line is its not a case of "they all do that sir", because they don't, and the "proper" clutch weight improves experience no end. Get it checked by a quality indie, they probably have seen the issue already and might have some better tips than the "corporate policy" OPC.
