Coming home from work the other day, following an M3, on the straight he tried to blast off but kept right on his tail which was great (obviously within the appropriate stopping distance ), but soon the road started to meander and the German engineering beat my raw driving skills, I'm pretty sure I was floating at one point through a particularly hairy 's' section of road...

Really good blast though, on the straights the Tuscan just plain kills the M3, but when it comes to cornering the M3 rules the roost, especially with my driving skills...

By the way I'd like to mention I don't agree with speeding on country roads, but it was late, and it was an M3...it would have been rude not to!

Glad to see you've still got the beastie anyway. Did it need a rebuild in the end ?

I've been lucky to own 2 Tuscans and one E46 (latest model) M3. I've got to say I much preferred the fun element of the Tuscan over the dull boring elements of the M3. The M3 engine is simply superb but its surrounded by a very wobbly chassis and dynamics you can't enjoy as much.

Well as people know I've just come away from my Tuscan S into a new M3 E46 smg and I can see why the M3 can be boring compared to the Tuscan. Clearly they are 2 completely different cars and having driven both now I can see the benefits in both. For me nothing will beat the Tuscan S for raw power and street cred...the M3 is a nice balance of controlled power (and lots of it) and comforts. Exactly why I bought a M3 but would never compare as I always blew away any M3 on the straights but can't wait to run mine in and take on the track to see how it performs around twistys etc on the track...think it will be great fun

I have always found that the best solution for any car wanting to 'have a go' was to gradually slow down and either pullin at the next lay bye or pull off onto another road. I'm too young to die for a tit in a repmobile.

I went from an M3 to the Tuscan S and I agree with Alf that the M3 has a superb engine but no real driver feeling like the beast. The M3 is a great all rounder and superb for everyday....but I think you will miss the rush of the Tuscan.

P.S. I hope your M3 does not give you the same problems as mine!

Yep is ironic that I've come from the Tuscan forum, where the speed6 is getting ridiculed and yet mine was fine and had no problems with it in 18 months since new. And come onto the BMW M3 forums and was very surprised to here about all the engine rebuilds.

So for those that are still ridiculing the TVR sp6....its not so green on the other side in supposedly BMW perfect engineering land

There was a similar thread while ago praising the virtues of the Elise over the Tuscan, however

Vauxhall VX 220 turbo - 1.31.3

My theory (IMO only) Tuscan owners are bit more mature (older) and therefore drive more cautiously and respect the cars more. I am certainly older now I can afford a Tuscan than I was when I could afford an Elise. No comments on blue/white propeller owners

or go to the Elise sites and see how many need new head gaskets

or MG forums and..... well they complain about everything

People love to complain on forums, and hence you get a biased opinion, but don’t get me onto anecdotal, non scientific engine reliability polls………………………

Yes probably still selling if the right buyer comes along; although everytime I come close to selling the motor, something cool happens, or I get a "nice car mate", or I see another Tiv on the road and it flashes back, makes me feel all warm inside...damn the TVR camaraderie !

I owned an M3 before my Tuscan and I've got to say the Tuscan has been a danged sight quicker through the bends as well as on the straights... though perhaps not when pulling away from stand-still on a large, wet, roundabout. The reason I find it quicker through the bends has a lot, I think, to do with the better feel of the chassis and steering. The M3 I managed to lose on the road. The Tuscan, only ever once on the track because it's a lot easier to recover (IMHO) so you can push it harder.

As for twits wanting to "have a go", my favourite technique (if they're behind me) is to slow down very gradually to 20 or 30mph... and then blast-off! Usually takes them a while to catch up even if you do let them!
