Finally managed to get things together and am now actively hunting out a 987 Cayman S.

What i'm after is a little advice on what to do with the current steed. It's a 928 S4 Auto, 120k, tip top condition but is due a service and MOT. When i purchased the car i had it inspected by a local specialist and he gave it a major green light, so i'm not expecting much hassle with the MOT.

So what do you think is the best bet here, get it serviced, MOT and timing belt done and sell privately?

Or, trade it in directly against the Cayman with just an MOT?

Thirdly, keep the 928 tucked up in the garage and watch it slowly rise in value?

I was worried that the Cayman is due a drop due to the 981 but what the hell, it has to be this year that i do this and as i can't afford a GT3 it's going to have to be a Cayman with a few extras.

So if you were in my shoes, how would you play it?

I would certainly sell the 928 privately. Does it require a cambelt now?

It's due in the next 6 months (time rather than mileage since last done) so would look to get it all done in a oner if i go that route.

What i'm wondering is if the cost of that will be recouped selling privately over a part ex with an MOT at £40.

When I sold my S4, having the timing belt, rollers and tensiors completed, along with the current MOT helped reduce any room for negotiation when the car was already competitively priced. As a fan of V8's if I had the space to store it and still do all the other stuff, I would have done so. Unfortunately, lack of use, and the need for space meant it had to go.
