After getting a healthy taste for the Surrey hills I've just signed up to do the medium route of King of the Downs (fk doing the long route smile)

Despite it being 56 miles it looks to have plenty of climbing and will be a good challenge. Anyone else signed up?

Should be called King of the (North) Downs ... but no, I'm signed up for the Eastbourne one on the same day ... 50 miles and 1150m on the (South) Downs.

Half the price of that posh Surrey one too hehe

Im signed up for the long one but having doubts now and may change to the shorter one after picking up a minor knee injury over Easter. Still have another month to repair though.

So anyone else now signed up to this for Sunday? I've ridden pretty much the whole route now, albeit not at the same time, and there are some tasty climbs smile

I'm signed up for it as well (the long route) although I think it's going to be a painful day as my training this year hasn't been anywhere near where it should be.

Well that was sort of fun. The first half (western loop) was lovely, the second (eastern) loop was far more painful and had a lot more hills on it, many of which didn't make it into the second '5 climbs'. Good route, well organised and excellent signposting so a very good day all in.

Spotted a PH shirt. White with no colours on the arms?

Good day for the ride but quite a few very tired legs visible. (We were riding against the flow of traffic smile )

Probably me then - it's an old shirt from a few years back but doesn't get out too much as I won't ride it MTBing with a vague hope of keeping it white.

You're not wrong about lots of tired legs, the hills got worse towards the end and lots of people at the finish area with the 'thousand yard stare' going on.

Thank god I only did the first half smile

Found it a very well organised event, well signposted and a good feed station plus food at the end. As for the route, I expected to find it tougher than I did, felt fresh at the end and was able to push hard back from Box Hill knowing there wasn't much left in the way of climbs.

Will be signing up for the full distance next year.
