997 GT3 Bypass pipe
Discussion
I am looking for a bypass pipe for a 997 GT3 and there seems to be many options with massively varying prices!
Can anyone explain the price differences to me please? Surely one pipe is the same as another no?
The sharkwerks one is $1500
The one from Design911 is around £1200
Hayward and Scott can make me one for around £400 odd

Anyone on here running one at the moment?

Hi Kul
I have just installed the Hayward and Scott bypass pipes on my GT3 this weekend. I dont understand why the Sharkwerks etc pipes are so expensive. The H&S pipes look exactly the same and do the same job, at a fraction of the price. The only difference maybe the weight, as the bypass pipes were still quite heavy, but they look well made and the weight saving wasn't the main reason for doing the mod. But the sound is so much better than stock, very addictive, especially through the Dartford tunnel on the way back from the Pistonheads Sunday Service yesterday.
I fitted the pipes myself, using the instructions on the Sharkwerks site.
If you are local to North Essex, you are more than welcome to have a listen.
Thanks
Mark

Do you have a PSE and is it boomy at motorway speeds?
Is there much difference with the valves open and closed?
Cheers

Yes, thats the one. It wasn't boomy at motorway speeds and to be honest, I haven't really tried it without the sport button on (as I press it on as default when I start the car). I would definitely recommend these pipes if you are looking for a more agressive sound, for a small outlay.Do you have a PSE and is it boomy at motorway speeds?

And I would guess no more trackdays. I would think it is too noisy wih a bypass one. You might want to check that out...unless its a pure road car.
Its a road car first and foremost, I will probably only take it on track once or twice a year (if that) Primarily its for European runs and weekends.I just don't want to get drowned out in the tunnels again this year

Mine going on tomorrow.
Hayward and Scott. Very nicely made quality part. It's an exact replica of the Sharky as far as I can see. I don't think the steel is particularly special and its still usefully lighter than the stock system.
All the straightforward By-pass systems are pretty much identical. Akrapovic have a slip on alternative which looks to have more to it(For £3000+ !! ) and RSSs X Pipe has some attempt at scavenging so they say.
Buy British, save a load of money.

I fitted a Sharkwerk By-pass pipe to my car about 18 months ago. Very pleased with it.
It was pretty expensive for what it is, £400 is a much more realistic price. The Haywood and Scott pipe looks nice, not quite as slick as the Sharkwerk, but the only person who will see it is you when you fit it.
I would have gone for the H&S Pipe if I had known about them, but I don’t think they were making them 18 months ago. I have used / fitted some of Haywood and Scotts products in the past and been very impressed.

Fitted a bypass to a 997 gt3, and taken the car on Silverstone and Spa - no issues - plug out as well
On the RS4.0 with a bypass and plug in - its 109.9db static at 5k revs.
But sounds awesome man do it...
I have the fabspeed bypass - but the bypass's seem to be all similar but vary in price. Seems Hayward Scott are the cheapest.

I have a bypass supplied and fitted by Tech9. Same as the Sharkwerks but a chunk cheaper. Fantastic quality. Sounds bloody lovely in tunnels.
Sounds bloody lovely on the M1, never mind a tunnel.
