Morning all, want to try the beast on slicks in a couple of weeks - anyone got references to OEM size options I.e 235/40/18 and 315/30/18 in a good slick? Don't want to change the rolling radius and have to have a ride height change .... Jon.

Give the guys at Dunlop motorsport a call. You will probably need hard compound on the rears and medium/soft on the fronts. Don't worry if they are slightly smaller in width as long as they fit on the rim and don't foul the arches because the sidewall profiles tend to be slightly higher.

Will call Mickey B tomorrow Steve, thanks. I have the car on 9 and 11 at the moment with the michelin road tyres on some very nice light Enkei rims - the rears @315 seem to offer more compliance than the factory 12's for road use. I would probably like to use the Enkei's for the slicks and put the Michelins on the heavy OEM rims in case it rains.

hi, going to be tricky if you want to run OE rims and make no setting changes (tho adding max camber has to be done to run slicks if you want them to work & last) in this case. the closest you get would be something like Pirelli 245/645/18 & 285/645/18. like Steve says don't be worried by the narrower rear, as if you want to run wider than 285 the depth of the slick will rise dramatically to the preferred depths which the Cup cars run 680 & 710 etc... to accommodate these big boys you'll need to run Motorsport spec rims.

Cant remember the ET, will check on the boxes - they are sat cluttering up the GF's kitchen....Similar to the OE mind, 7mm spacers on the front to give clearance to the damper, 18mm on the rear to have it fill the arch nicely. No rubbing. Very light, stunning quality, and look lovely..

yep agree totally Japanese rims like Enkei / Rays / Rota are good kit!..

on my 6 I'm currently running;

Dunlop slicks F 235/640/18 med & R 288/680/18 hard on BBS E88 rims F 9Jx18 ET 46 & R 11Jx18 ET59.

the extra corner exit traction given by the tall rears has to be experienced to be believed! ... something quite special I'll think you'll find especially in a trick GT2 smile

Watch out running 680 diameter rears. You will get ABS/Brake issues from the large circumference.
The Mk1 cars use a less sophisticated ABS computer and ade seems to have no issues so far but I still worry about it. It only takes one time. The later cars hit problems pretty quickly. You need to run a 640 diameter rear tyre sadly. The 680 rear tyre is the ticket with slicks but with a stock abs setup is pretty much a no go. Everyone would be on 680s if there was a way to let you do it without rolling dice every corner.

Fwiw, you want to try and run as much front tyre width as you can get in there. A 6GT3 on 9" can take a 255 street tyre. Assume GT2 must be comparable

I'm not familiar with the ABS unit on the 996 GT2 but I'm surprised a change in tyre rolling radius would affect it. If it had a torque vectoring stability control / traction control feature I could imagine it having an affect, but not straightforward ABS surely?
