Is the AL+ worth the extra dollar?

I'd personally go for the longer travel talas fork, but it depends what sort of riding you do.

I'll be interested in your opinion of either when you have it, I was very close to pulling the trigger on a nerve a couple of years ago.

They are very different bikes.
I'd say the cheaper of the two is actually quite a bit "better".
But if you're doing more "extreme" stuff rocky descents etc, you'd need the 1st one.

In what way do you think the AL is better? I wouldn't say it's better spec wise.

I'd go for the AL7.0 myself, nice spec, 2lbs lighter and 120mm of nice controlable travel which is plenty for the UK and the occasional trip to the Alps... put it this way, I dont think the bike will hold you back...

Buying a bike isnt like winning a game of top trumps, you shouldnt base all the decisions on which bike has more travel or groupset hierarchy. You need to apply some real world logic to the decision.

Personally I think that weight saving is huge and will be far more noticeable than an XT rear mech or cranks. With some careful upgrades you could easily be running a sub 24lbs full sus bike...

i think we know you want the AL+

get the 'better' bike - psychologically it will make a difference and you will be happier. you get the AL7 and you will always be wondering 'what if'... the AL+6 is not much more either.

from a 'top trumps' perspective, whilst previous comments are not incorrect, you do get extra bragging rights.

The AL is the more popular bike and has had some great reviews - and I agree that lighter is better.
But I'm not sure that I won't be kicking myself if I don't go for the more beefier bike.

I need to make a decision soon as I want to get one ordered today....

I need to grow some balls!!

Been out of the bike scene for a while now but want to get back in as I'm getting close to 30 and my waist line is growing..!

Will be mostly hacking round the woods for a couple of hours at first while my fitness and strength increases but will move on to the 'bigger' stuff later on. I have got back in touch with my biker mates from back in the day who are still riding.

I just feel that if I go for the AL I will just regret not going for the AL+ at a later date.

This thread has come at a perfect time.

I've been trying to decide between the AL and AL+ and it sounds as though I am the same the OP. Whilst the AL is probably perfect for what I would use it for, I can't help but feel that the AL+ would be the better buy in case I decide to upgrade down the line.

I then think I've decided on the AL+ but cannot decide between the AL+ 6.0, 7.0 or 8.0 for the same reasons as above. So I start thinking the 8.0 is probably the one to go for. But I then think it's too much, maybe I would be better going for the AL 7.0.

I hate not being able to make decisions!!

My wallet wouldn't stretch to the 7! Will let you know my thoughts when it arrives!
