OPC extended warantee and tyres
Discussion
I appreciate that under the extended warrantee, all mechanical work has to be carried out by an opc..
Does anyone know if this extends to new tyres? I've been using my local place for years and would rather stick with them.
Was thinking of going with the standard Bridgestones (997 c4s) unless anything better is recommended?
Also is it OK to just do the front two for now and the rear two later? You read some horror stories about 4wd and tyres...
TIA.

On the 997 C4S there is already a tyre size difference of almost 3%, with the fronts being larger. I wouldn't worry about replacing the fronts first.
Under extended warranty I'd be matching brands front to back and N ratings across an axle to keep Porsche happy. Having someone else supply and fit is fine.

First, work on your car does not have to be done by an OPC. Warranty terms changed at least 2 years ago. It has to be done in accordance with Porsche guidelines with original Porsche parts. But, if the work done by an independent fails this is not covered by the warranty. But that is not surprising.Does anyone know if this extends to new tyres? Second, you can get your tyres fitted wherever you want. With regard to having to fit the same N rated tyres on all corners, this does not seem to be explicitly covered in the warranty paperwork. There does seem to be some debate on this issue on the internet forums, but no surprise there.
I find it odd that porsche can specify what consumables you must use on your wheels. Am I missing something, is there a problem with other tyres that might cause the suspension to fall off or the engine to disintegrate? Really, if I dont use an N rated tyre then surely the only bad outcome of that is that I wrap the back end of my 911 into a tree and I'm damn sure porsche aren't covering that regardless of tyre.
Do I have to buy porsche water for my washer bottle too in order stop the rear diff from falling out?

I am running Supersports and my Porsche warranty is about to run out and enter the extended warranty period. I asked at my dealer, who said that it wasn't a problem. I also reviewed the policy and it states it should have porsche approved PARTS. So, that raises the question, are tyres parts or consumables? If consumables, then they are not excluded. I guess until someone has a claim refusal due to non N rated tyres and challenges such a claim we will not know for sure. Has ANYONE genuinely had a claim refused for a non related item for having non N rated tyres under the current policy?
I have had warranty work carried out no problem on my GT3 wearing Non N rated supersports. The 111 check to renew the warranty however was a different story and if I had kept it , it would have had to have N rated tyres. I suggested I could borrow some wheels with N rated tyres purely to pass muster for the 111 check and they had no problem with that. Does seem weird.
