Picking people's brains if that's okay?

I am looking to sell the wife's car, and have generally traded cars in for the last god knows how many years! Where is the best place to sell a small family car worth about £5k these days?

You will be entitled to free adverts here. It's based on how long you've been a member, Oh and Gumtree is free!

I sold my smart roadster on here a few years back for £5900 within a couple of days, but I guess a lot is down to the type of car etc.
I've also bought a few motors on eBay but then again I hear their are quite a few time wasters on eBay plus if you auction the car it can cost a few quid in fees

Sold a car in Feb....PH was a tender for a month. Ebay is about 15 for a classified ad. As for autotrader a whopping 36quid for only 2 weeks! I sold through the PH ad in the end. Autotrader was not suitable as the car was quite specific...but saying that I sold the missus pug307 on autotrader last year..sold in 12hrs! If you price it keenly it'll go quick. Price it close to dealer prices it may take a while.i. Good luck and watch out for the chancer and scam texts.

I hate selling cars! I sell boats all day everyday and I love it, but I really hate selling cars.

My friend has recently taken his car to a local specialist to put up for sale on SOR. Seems a good option to me. No hassle at all.

Although I never used them, 'We Buy Any bla bla' actually gave me sensible valuations on the last 2 cars I sold. It was only the fact I would rather sell to a used buyer that little bit cheaper that stopped me using them. Ended up taking their valuation and using it as my minimum on Fleabay.

Good luck

We buy any blar.com......I put my r36 estate into it out of curiosity...they offered £6850!!!! ...I got offered 12500 cash by a dealer ..part ex was glass guide £12870 sold private for 13100.....not sure whether it priced as a standard passat but the difference was outrageous.

They got within £750 on my E61 520d Touring to what I got selling it SOR through a specialist. I'm not saying they are for everyone and the more 'left field' a car is the further they seem to be from the real world. They offered me £225 on my 306 Rallye that sold for £1,700 odd on Ebay. But for run of the mill everyday stuff they may be worth a couple of minutes on their website.

We buy any blar made a reasonable offer when I put all the details in, it was about £750 under the price independent companies are advertising similar cars for, so not too bad, but I guess the appointment may be another round of negotiations from them! I guess I may be able to get a few hundred quid more if they pay that price, but may not be worth it for all the time and hassle of selling privately!

Sorry mate - I've never reached the appointment stage. Although a guy at work went that route and said it was hassle free having given an accurate description. Let us know if you do go that way.

You could always try the bargain basement thread on here if the car is cheap enough,
I put my parents car on there it was sold within minutes,
