Looks like there are a few of us with TrainerRoad set ups now so maybe we can use this thread to share the good/bad workouts we've done.

I've been using it for 3mths now and on Wednesday I did my toughest session yet. Winchell

90 minutes, av 160bpm, 45% in threshold, 21% in VO2 Max. I was absolutely spent.

Very good going. I see your 21% and raise you with 51% smile

I do notice that your VO2 Max low threshold is at 172bpm and mine is 165, how is this calculated in TR?

Tbh now the suns coming out I've not used it in the last couple of weeks, but really enjoyed it over the winter months.

Dunno. I used to be 165 but changed when I re-did my FTP test.

I see you didn't complete the 30s/2m/5m power test. Wimp wink

I had to get off and throw up after the last interval when I did it. http://www.trainerroad.com/cycling/rides/162103

HR zones are apparently a slightly modified version of the Andrew Coggan system http://home.trainingpeaks.com/articles/cycling/pow...

It's calculated from your FTHR value (LTHR) - so you need to have set that, and ideally via the 20min test not the 8 min (HR is a bit of a laggy response)

I'm inclined to think if you've spent 50% of your time in VO2max, then the zones are rather wrong for you - I think it's kinda not possible by definition!

Timely thread!

I joined yesterday having just got myself a turbo trainer. Pretty sure the absolute power figures it giving me via the VirtualPower are too high (250W versus I reckon more like 220W from WattBike sessions recently), but this is of less importance since all workouts are scaled according to the power test you undertook (I did the 8 min).

I just bought one of the Sufferfest videos to go with it, Revolver 2013. I also have it set up to go on my 32in TV. I have to say, so far, I'm impressed.

Angels at 95% pretty much had me throwing up..
Felt good after I'd recovered though!

I'll be adding stuff on here when i start using it properly in the next week or so! :-)

Yeah the numbers can't really be called Watts but as long as they are consistent (and they seem to be) and repeatable then I'm happy.

Your FTP must be too low if you can scale a Sufferfest upwards that or you're some kind of masochist.

I've got 98 workouts/5.3 days logged on TR since I got my setup last October. The thing is addictive and even though the weather is improving I still plan to put 3 sessions a week in and use the weekend for riding out in the real world.

Yeah I should do a retest, haven't done one since I signed up last year. I don't always go over like that I just felt good on that day.....

Thought I'd give an update since this is the only riding I've been able to do since throwing myself carelessly at the scenery 6 weeks ago...

I think it's simply brilliant. Coming from having done quite a lot of cycling for the fun of it, then wishing to improve my fitness and not done any training per se (certainly not structured), this is a revelation.

Since my first 2x8 minute FTP test 5 weeks ago, to today's 2x20 min FTP test (via an intermediate 2x20 test), I've seen an improvement of very nearly 20%. I've been using Virtual Power since I don't have a power meter, so while I take the actual power figures with a dash of salt, my set-up has remained consistent, so I think the improvement is pretty accurate. This is rather a good improvement I reckon. Though (as mentioned above) I hadn't done any structured training prior to using TrainerRoad, I was still doing around 100-150km per week mainly trying to better my time round Richmond Park, so was giving it some each time I went out. The problem now of course is having reset my FTP, all the workouts are going to scale upwards again. vomitwink

Anyone else complete the "8 Days of California" workout that they designed that coincided with the Tour of Cali? That was fun, if rather hard!

PS - I've had one or 2 technical issues, but the support is really speedy and useful. A great tool and a great community.

I used it for the first time last week to do the 20min test; thought it was very good!

I'm looking forward to doing more on it (in fact, I plan to tonight!)

I did it, thought it was very good. Got 25 PRs whilst doing it and the TT stage indicated it's time for an FTP retest.

Really liked the workouts for most of the stages and I can see myself using them in future outside of the context of the 8 Days of California. Made we realise that I'd completely ignored sprinting as well so more work needed there.
