Just seen this on the Mail's site.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2311122/A2...

How on earth can you miss a bright white sports car clearly sitting out of the way, presumably with its hazards on?

This just seems like such a ridiculous waste of a man's life and his car. My sympathies go out to his family.

2 points spring to mind:

There's no hard shoulder, so unless he's managed to get the car onto the grass (looks like he didn't), he was sitting in a car in a live running lane.

He was sitting in the car. We all know this is not clever.

Obviously neither point absolves the truck driver, it's not obvious from the photos why the truck driver hit the MGB, but presumably it wasn't deliberate, so there would be some reason, either inattention, tuning the radio, obscured view by another truck, just for a few.

Professional drivers my arse. 80% of HGV drivers are fking useless a I can think of 6 cases in the past 2 and a half weeks where a car driver (or more) have been killed by a HGV.

My sympathy to his family and friends. A loss of life like this is always a tragedy.

If it was parked on a live lane, it's very easy. Not through inattention but if there's an artic in front you cannot see anything on the carriageway ahead, so if it moves out of the way at the last moment options can be very limited even when travelling at the recommended distance behind.

I've broken down in the Imps enough times to know that I would not attempt to work on them on / at the side of a dual carriageway or motorway, unless in one of the off carriageway parking areas found on some dual carriageways. Get out, call the AA or breakdown organisation of choice (anyone with a classic should belong to one) and wait.

Several people I would imagine. Is it wrong to care about the car as well as the man? The fact that I care about the car does not mean that I care about the man any less.

Not trying to justify the tipper drivers actions but white cars can blend in quite easily.

A sad loss of life which could happen to any of us.

His name was Keith Hall, he adored his MGB, it was a 1969 in OEW, he leaves two young children under ten and a wife behind. One of the best, funniest, most enthusiastic blokes you could ever have met. It's a tragic loss, it made me cry... So much life to have, cut short.... I called him Albert, and it made him smile every time. Rest easy fella.

Tragic.....Very very sad.

Could have been any of us breaking down in our old cars and in a desperate attempt to get it going sitting with it.

Most lorry drivers I see have nearly always got a phone to their ear.....Lets hope that wasn't the case here.
