Noticed Today my speedo needle when the engine
is off is sitting in the middle of the fuel
gauge instead of stopping at zero.
As a result of this three quarter's of an inch
drop when you start to move it under reads by
that distance which is about 15 mph, the digital
readout is not affected and register's the correct
speed.Has anyone suffered this before and is it as
I fear a pod back to the factory job? This only
seemed to happen after I fitted a new battery!!!

Cheers Col.

I have had this a few times usually with a diagnostic code 'B' on start up, although it zero's ok when the ignition is switched on/off a couple of times and then the code 'B' clears. From talking to my dealer the problem is down to the speedo sensor of which I am waiting for the latest version (MK4?)to hopefully cure this and unstable readout at high MPH.

Had a new speedo sensor fitted about 3 months
ago to cure needle sitting at 180mph when stationary.
I didn't think it would be the sensor as the digital
readout is unaffected!!!

If yu can get the car on the ramps you can also clean the sensors in the rear diff. be carefull tho as the wires are soldered onto the sensor

My digital readout was always different to the analogue. I was never quite sure which to believe, tricky when the difference was 5 mph @ 30 mph!

The digital is accurate- in my experience the analog is a bit flacky from time to time.-I have sat at the traffic lights doing 90 and been overtaking everything on th motorway at an indicated 20....don't worry about it-next time you fire it up it will work just fine.
