Hi all

Not sure if this is a common fault with an easy fix or not. A sender unit maybe?

Went for a drive last night and briefly got an EFI fault code K (Fuel level sensor open circuit?)

The fault cleared itself but flashed up again this morning.

The car had about 20 litres (+/- 5 litres depending on the cars mood) of fuel but the analogue gauge has all of a sudden shot up to full and the digital is stuck at 60 litres.

I'm assuming the two are connected.

Any ideas?

The connections to the level sensor/sender are under the carpeted flap in the boot.

Pretty obvious once you lift the flap - black plastic plug with 3 wires to it connecting to sender unit on top of tank. It sounds like they have got a bit damp.

The sender is a variable resistance wire that is altered by the float in the tank. Looks like whatever dampness/muck is shorting out the wires that 'measure' the variable resistance....causing it to read max.

Funny, mine has only ever shown 57 litres on the digital readout when full.

Matt,
Thanks for replying....I sometimes offer my thoughts on here, and it's always nice to hear that my suggestion works!!!
It's good to get feedback - even if it's someone saying you're talking out of your a@se!

Some people can be rude or thoughtless, I try not to be.

You saved me a trip to the garage and a few £££'s and I appreciate it smile

Part of what this site is supposed to be all about.

Mods shout A Facebook style 'like' feature for posts would be nice.

Thanks again.

Guys, thanks also for an easy fix via the Tuscan PH search function.

One things nawarne - you said there's 3 wires going to the plug... I only have 2, a green and a black. Should I be concerned?

Probably NOT!

I try and help when I can...and it is a case of remembering what wires go where...sort of thing.
I would say that perhaps early tank level senders were of the 2 wire variety, but not 100% certain.
