How cheap for a 48 year old 'runner'?

So, sitting at work putting off doing the VAT return, I was musing. I am 48 and was wondering what would be the cheapest 48 year old car that is still in road legal condition and has 'a bit of a future'.

In other words, a rolling restoration or very non concours condition.

My initial thoughts were perhaps HA Viva, or the like?

Well yes, Bramley, but how cheap are they? A solid one is going to be silly money and anything cheap is cheap for a reason. Surely a solid HA is going to be cheaper to by than a solid Beetle?

Minor, like the Beetle are a bit iconic though aren't they? But then I suppose anything that isn't iconic isn't going to be 48 years old!

The trick is to find something solid that isn't iconic. That's why I was thinking a less loved Vauxhall, or perhaps a Humber? Singer? Something else Rootes Group?

Vauxhall Viva? Was a pretty common car in it's day but I guess didn't get the fan following of the Beetle or the Minor, so should be cheaper, but that probably means they're rarer.

I've alway thought that a Viva HA looks like the sort of car you would build if you had only sheets of aluminium and a pop riveter.
Given your fleet, go for a TVR, five times the price but ten times the fun.
