V-Power?

I've always used cooking unleaded in my S as, after all, it's a fairly simple 12v Ford V6, but I saw SUL mentioned in another thread. Other than detergents, etc. that might be present in SUL, is there any benefit? There's no knock sensor on the V6 that would alter the timing to take advantage of more bang is there?

I read a report on high performance fuel, to cut a very long story short if you have a very high performance modern car then you can get some good performance gains, unlikely to make any difference to us I'm afraid. Can't help with the rubber seal but mine is off if you need me to mesure it.

I remember SUL making a noticeable difference in my Griff, but I'm convinced the S prefers the cooking variant.

Of course...I could have dreamt it.

Fuel cap rubbers are available from the Sunbeam Rapier owners club (uses same filler) I think theres a contact in the "general S information" in "usefull links"

I've always used super both on my V6 and V8. Seems to make the car run better. Swear by V power for th V8. Its just a car that's less grumpy on V power (and that's the advice previous owner gave too)

Any petrol with an octane rating >95 RON should resist pinking when compared to regular unleaded. To take advantage of this, you have to advance your timing by a couple of degrees, and you almost certainly will be pleased with the results. I can't remember all of the numbers right now, but 15 deg BTDC rings a bell? Listen for pinking and retard until it goes away.

Tried both varieties in the car and the only noticeable different was the paid in my wallet!! I replaced the seal l;ate '09 when I fitted the first replacement filler caps available, would have thought it would be OK still

Cheers folks, as I suspected. Have used it to good effect on my turbocharged cars but they have knock sensor and there is a real difference in performance.

Norman, I'll have another look, maybe it's OK. Just looked a little perished, seems to be sealing nicely still

Off topic, was nice to go for a drive with the roof off yesterday, here's to a decent summer...

Unfortunately a lot of "pattern parts" seem to be manufactured with poor quality materials (I'm not saying these are), I've just changed a pair of steering rack gaiters only about 3 years old and starting to crack/split.

Not noticed any real difference in any of mine (current or past), except the cerb has more pops and bangs. However, no idea if there is any difference inside.
