I currently have two cars - a 2012 RRS for long journeys / road trip etc, and a 2007 335i that I currently drive to and from work (2 miles each way). The 335i is pretty redundant to be honest, its getting old and I want to get rid of it. I want something that I can drive to and from work every day (no public transport options where I live and would get killed cycling), and also will double up as some fun at the weekends. Also want a convertible.

I have been thinking of either a 997 C4S Cab (I prefer the C4S body shape to the 2S) or a 981 boxster S. 997 would be circa 2010 / 11 and the Boxster 2013. No need for rear seats, just me and my missus.

So - opinions - who would go for what and why?

I went for the Boxster S.

Just don't like the rear end of the 911 cab. It looks like an after thought to sell more cars kind of design to my eye.

Wanted a soft top, so although i could have afforded to get a 911, the Boxster ticked more boxes on the list.

Had the same choice about 3 years ago and after driving both...went for the Boxster S.

Superb cars. Balanced and so capable.

Drove a 981 S a few weeks ago and it was fantastic thumbup

Same here I love 911s and hope to have another one day, but I just can't get on with the look of the cab, the 991 is better with the roof up but still looks strange with the roof down IMO

981 looks stunning

Ive had both cars, 987.1 and 997.1 4s
If you're not basing it on looks which are subjective...
997 gen 2 c4s more grunt mid and high end, and better sound, 911 image but not thought as pure in cab form. In reality it's still a great drivers car.
Boxster is sweeter handling and nicer interior and can take more luggage, much more practical, better mpg and running costs in general but not much in it.
Both awesome cars, drive both and you'll know what's for you, you won't go wrong either way

performance wise they are pretty close.

look wise the 981S is much much better looking, one car is designed as a cabriolet while the other had its top chopped.

997.2s is a lot gruntier than 981s.
997 platform was developed as a cabriolet prior to coupe development. The 981 is no looker from the rear or rear 3/4, still got the upturned bathtub look. I hate that stupid spoiler stuck on the lights too.
997 cab has a fat ass but not everyone would pick a size 4 model over j lo

I'm in the 981 S camp too - newer, better balanced and easier to hustle (if you want to) but makes an amazing noise and has zero scuttle shake! smile
