Considering first Porsche: Pre-'83 911s?
Discussion
Gentlemen
I have a CRX now (and an BMW E28) and I love that less is more old cars feel. I am 28 and been saving for a while to afford something that I want to keep for a long time, and it stands between an aircooled 911 and an early NSX, but I'm leaning towards a 911 because I could park it anywhere and because they have better midrange (that is my understanding from reading misc. forums).
I have always been a 964 fan, but lately I've been obsessing over pre-964 911s, much because of Magnus Walker's Urban Outlaw documentary which I'm sure you have all seen. Reason being that I want something challenging to grow with and something I can add a personal touch to over time. Also, nothing cooler than chrome bumpers, Fuchs wheels and a proper ducktail
There is one helluva upside with pre-964 cars:
I live in Norway. Here, any car of age 30 or older gets a vintage status. This means that the yearly road tax is reduced from about 350 £ to a mere 55 £, and when importing there are no longer any taxes except VAT (which means a saving of about 10.000 £ - the amount of tax an '84 would get!). Also, the insurance, for some odd but welcomed reason, becomes significantly cheaper as well.
So, I'm trying to educate myself over 911s that are from '83 or a little bit earlier. I am willing to pay for a good sample, but as I have indicated I will be modifying the car over time so I would get eventually get engine/brakes/suspension etc. upgrades.
Thoughts? Should I just go for the best and latest regular non-special edition 911 I can afford or is there something I should know? I understand that many would recommend the last year ('88?) but then I'd lose the tax benefits of the older pre-'83s...
Thanks.

Hi, late model SC with the 204 bhp engine. (Has the side indicators on the wings). Last of the SC also has the turbo rear wing. Looks fab IMHO.
