Upgrading Ultegra chainset

My road bike is currently equipped with a Ultegra 6750 chainset with a SM-BB71-41 Shimano bottom bracket.

I want to change the chainset for both cosmetic reasons (as think it's the worst looking bit on the bike) and also need a compact in readiness of a lot of climbing coming this summer. When trying to find something that will either fit my current BB, or what kind of BB I need to change to is not proving easy.

Any thoughts or help much appreciated.

Whilst I appreciate 6750 is the ugliest looking groupset ever made, you are going to be spending at least £200 to get something comparable in terms of weight and function. Ribble have a Sram Force chainset for £167 with 50/34 rings and a Sram GXP BB is about £30...

With Ultegra I think it's essential to get the right colour combo with the rest of the bike. I see quite a few bikes with silver chainsets and they rarely gel with the frame.

I was lucky because Wiggle used the wrong colour in their website picture on the right otherwise I would have been tempted to change to black or get a black FSA or something.

Nope. I googled 'Ultegra 6750 chainset' just to be sure. Then I thought "that's my bloody chainset he's dissin"

Bloody cheek. I love it. It was one of the main reasons for bustin' my budget when I bought my 'best' bike:

Campag Chorus with a campag bottom bracket will work fine, as will SRAM Red with SRAM bb

I don't like the look of Ultegra either.

2012 Red or 2013 Force win the beauty competition, in my book. They are a fair bit lighter too.
