I have a question about the vans operated by Central Scotland Camera Partnership, Are they able to take pictures from the front of the vehicle?

So if you head towards the camera at the rear of the van on a motorbike, can they then get a pic of the place as you go past the front of the van?

Ok thanks, just have to see what happens. Pretty sure I was within the limit quickly, just have to wait and see though.

Out of interest, where abouts was this? I've only ever seen the van on bridges using the side windows and pretty much know those locations by heart :-)

The Drymen bypass, on the straight between two junctions to Dryment. It was situated so that if you are heading from Aberfoyle you'll not see the camera until you go over a slight crest then you just see it pointing at you.

I'm not even sure that I was actually over the speed limit when I came into view of it, but the surprise was quite unpleasant.

Thats the problem. In Central Scotland and in particular in Stirling dundee area they set these at 78 in a 70 as opposed to 82 elsewhere. It can be quite easy to make a mistake an inadvertently let the speed drift. Nothing to do with alleged Safety and all to do with just making money. The vans should be burned and the people operating them sacked!

This one amazed me at the sheer cynicism with which it's been placed. And they claim it's for safety! It was very clearly there to make money and nothing to do with safety.

So that could be 67 in a 60 then... Allowing for the speedo over-reading, which it does I should hopefully be ok, but that's only half the issue. It's really hard to enjoy riding or driving if I'm worried that a momentary lapse in speed is gonna get caught by some dick turpin wannabes making themselves as invisible as possible and take me closer to losing my license.

However, it'll all become clear in the next 14 days or so.

I would go further than that Kenny. I would love to see a set of figures showing the accidents at sites like these caused by the instant braking reaction that most of us would instinctively follow on spotting one of these things.

It would make interesting reading.

I'm sure I saw some figures that showed accidents went up 30% at the scamera sights. Aside from the immediate breaking, my concentration was shot for the next couple of minutes and my riding showed it!

been there cruise set at 74, but clocked at 78 - got the t-shirt, the points & the insurance hike for being a dangerous driver on a straight mile stretch of road.

For the non cynical gents, I've got a photo of a sign saying "ACCIDENT HERE ON ****-CALL THIS NO ". Sign was placed at the base onf one local camera . So cameras stop accidents ???

The justification for the camera I saw is that the road has quite a few accidents. However, the camera was not where a lot of the accidents happen. That reasoning has been used to cynically place a camera to extract money. What's more I do suspect it makes that road more dangerous.

Well, saw a camera belonging to this organisation on the M9 / M876 turnoff, so thought I'd have a look at the statistics for this accident blackspot.

Have a look at this link, from Central Scotland Safety Camera Partnership:

http://www.centralsafetycameras.co.uk/index.php/sa...

According to their own numbers, there have been 2 Fatal / Serious accidents in the last 10 years! And a total of 3 personal injury accidents. How on earth does that constitute an accident blackspot, or an area in need of additional safety devices?

Oh wait, I don't think it does...

Have a look at some of the other Motorway locations and you'll find similar.

If they can't even create believable justification for themselves on their own propoganda page, they may as well just admit that it's about revenue.

The other location - that makes my piss boil - is also on the M9. Westbound on the flyover at Polmont, Eastbound on the M876 again on the flyover just after the A9 turnoff. Sneaky and un-necessary as they are on clear, hazard free stretches. I tend to set my cruise at 77mph, but jeez it's tedious . . . . . . .

I feel a rant coming on . . . . . .

Oh and while on the subject, anyone noticed how speeds on the motorway have definitely lowered comapred to a while back? Used to be at an indicated 80mph one was the filling on the sandwich between the plodders and the zippers. Now at an - indicated - 80 it looks as though your arse is on fire.

Well, it's looking like a lucky escape. Dick Turpin has failed to relieve me of silver and points as nothing has arrived yet and the time is up.

I now have the same wait but may not be quite so lucky I fear. was driving mrs company car so have a bit longer than 14 days to wait for it to work through the system. Resigned myself to the fine and points and if I don't then its a bonus . . . .

I feel exactly the same about the one that is used in Kincardine. It used to only turn up on weekends when there were large events on at knockhill ( before the new bridge was opened ).

http://www.scottishsafetycameras.com/CameraDetails...

Its there more frequently now even though the road is much quieter and as you can see from the link above the road is far from an accident blackspot.

A90 tayside [perth-dundee] traffic have been parking their cars up, removing their hi viz protective clothing, and using the overpasses to nab folk.

Not Cool.
