Just wanting pics of 996's on aftermarket wheels. I want to change from the standard 17 inch carrera wheels but don't want the usual turbo twists etc.

So come on lets see your pics please.

here's mine as it stands

Not really helpful to you, but I would leave that as it is.

Except, I would get rid of the clear lights and get some 'proper' ambers on it! biggrin

Yep, Jacks ATSs look great.

Also it's a bit unfair to class all aftermarket wheels as Halfords specials.
There are loads of aftermarket wheel producers that make stuff for race applications and oem too. Speedline, BBS anyone?

RH Turbo P 19 inch (would have preferred 18)

nono

There was a reason the 996.1 went clear in later models - it looks better!!

Porsche are, in general, terrible at wheel design. (There have been a few exceptions, but not many).

There is plenty of scope to improve, but be careful as it can look 'Halfords' if not done carefully.

Right

Wrong

Typical PH Porsche forum snobbery I'm afraid.

That silver car looks spot on in every way, ride-height, wheels, everything.

Amber lenses would kill it in my view. Let's not forget not every 996 mk1 had amber lenses. Mine has clears and that's all it will ever have. Whatever it left factory with, is what it should have, if you're that way inclined, but personally I'd always have the clears.
It isn't like fitting clears to a 964 which never had them from the factory (although I don't mind this either), the clears were proper factory parts.

All I would say to the op is be careful on widths and diameters, etc. You don't want to ruin the simplicity of a nice un-kitted 996 by sticking a set of huge fussy wheels on it. Those BBS on the silver car are great and you can even get snidey copies for next to nothing, although they're probably made from Chinese cheese and not TUV approved or anything. wink

Good post.

The 996 carrera is a difficult car to get wheels for as it has quite a swoopy, organic design, and angular wheels often clash/jar wih that.

That said, its difficult to look any worse than the wheels the are on it at the moment (sorry OP, but I think you agree, hence the thread).

The Mk1 GT3 wheels are OK - how about them?

I know you said non-porsche but it is difficult to find some that fit/suit the car.

I think there was some mad chap on here that swapped his GT3-a-likes for a set of turbo twists (a huge step backwards in my opinion) - perhaps you could find/contact him and see if he wants to sell his GT3-a-likes?

ATS have a rich history of supplying OEM Porsche wheels - the early 911 and 944 had them as std from the factory, no issue at all from me in sticking a set on a modern car, its kind of a nod to Porsche history. Samegoes for Fuchs, of course.

A few nice pics.

I want to get away from the usual wheels. Just about every 996 i see have either the turbo twists or the GT3 types of wheels on them and i want my car to look different.

I'm only going up 18 inch wheels. I've seen a few that i like but the prices are just silly.

Cheers guys.

What constitutes silly to your mind? Used is where the value is, but other than that I'd recommend looking at OZs.
