I've been working on 6-2 rotation in Baku/Baki(Azerbaijan/Azerbaycan) since November. Working in the 'Landmark' buildings, living near the Hyatt.

Generally finding the place pretty nuts so far - bonkers driving, cars, construction, economy, night life the list goes on...

Anyone else about who fancies a pint?

[I'm not Billy no Mates looking for a 'special car fwend', I just like meeting new PHers]

:O 3x!

I've not been at Landmark for a while. I'm out of town at the jacket fabrication yard. I work for BP. Yourself?

Shoot us a PM if you need any advice and let me know when you're in town.

You need to go find yourself Kevin Stephenson and say hello. Country Manager for PD&MS out there but was Amec for 20 plus years. Was in Baku previously for about 9 of those.

Avid Sunderland fan as well.

Not there, but quite fancy it as a long weekend destination, would you recommend it?

Would be with the wife and currently 7 month old son.

Go for the F1 weekend. Went last year and thought it was great for that. 2 min walk from our grandstand to the nearest bar, 5mins into town, 10mins to the hotel. The city is 'on show' and all locals in party mode. Restaurants are dubai standard but 1/4 - 1/3 of the price. We had a great time.

Cheers Phil, sounds more like a lads weekend than a family trip... A plan is born...

Other than the race noise i would disagree, it’d be a great family weekend. The track goes around the periphery of the old town and city centre so you are never more than a walk from something non f1 so youre not bored between sessions. I even went to the heydar aliyev centre (the swoopy zaha hadid building) before quali.

Apologies, I missed this last week.

Yes, I strongly recommend race weekend for lads group or family and the rest of the summer months (April to October) for a family trip.

As already mentioned there is plenty to see, around the race and in general. The city centre and sights are very compact and especially easy to get around during race week because of all the road closures.

The night life isn't good enough to warrant a lads weekend away from the race.

Let me know if you plan to come to the race. I've got plenty of advice to give haha.
