I am looking to buy a cooper S in the next while. I have looked at a few to find that they were the perfect spec if they were not missing the MFSW. Why was this such a rare option? Can it be retro fitted and what are the likely costs?

I'm assuming you're looking at an R56 Cooper S. The MFSW was a must when I bought one a few weeks ago. I understand it was about £150 to spec it when new.

In about 2008 I looked into retro fitting a MFSW to our 2002 Cooper. It would have cost about £6-700 so never bothered. This included me sourcing the wheel myself for about £150. I would assume similar costs for the later models too.

Hope this helps.
