Hi all

Month or so ago purchased a snotter 944 off a mate, changed the ARB bushes and now think the steering rack could do with replacement. I see there are plenty of refurbed ones about, has anyone replaced it themselves? Easy enough job without a lift or not?

Cheers

Richard

Hardest bit is splitting the coupler to the steering shaft, it was pretty well sized on mine and access is tight, the coupler is where the shaft passes through the cross member. Did mine on axle stands, not a bad job just measure the track rod lengths before stripping it to get a ball park then get an alignment done. Or if you want to be tight swap the inner tie rods between the racks and the alignment should be the same.

I assume it is a power rack? If it is get new sealing washers for the connections. Also check the column UJs especially the one near the exhaust manifold as they frequently get cooked & die. A new shaft is around £80 or so.
