Living the dream...

Hi all,
Bought a copy of Evo mag yesterday and they had tested every model of GT3 and put the details of the roads used in South Wales, A4061 from Treherbert. Had today off, so got up at 05:30 and drove to the Brecon Beacons. Amazing road, fast, undulating and awesome sweeping hairpins. Ambient temp was -0.5 degrees but the Michelins hung on really well.
All I can say is get those toys out, its cold but dry and it certainly blew the cobwebs out of me as well as the car. The car was awesome and put a massive smile on my face, must be what its all about.

Did it yesterday,
jct 36 m4 follow a4061 to treherbert (you start to wonder if a good road will actually appear but it really does), then to treorchy heading for Hirwaun (amazing), then the road to Merthyr and which point you'll ht the a470 roundabout, hang a left for Brecon, then as you head up in to the hills, reservoirs to your left, turn left for Hirwaun/Penderyn distillery and have your mind blown by the best open moorland road.
I went back and forth for an hour there.
I can't be sure if it's the exact route because I kept turning around and doing it again.
To saintlysimon, you can start it from this end too, come off at junction 32, head up the a470 to Merthyr, then a470 Brecon and hit the moorland road first.
An excellent road to try out your new toy- the moorland road is superb, well surfaced, wide, loads of visibility but nice and twisty and undulating. The views are immense too.

Did the same road about a month ago..early finish when working over by Pontypool and had only had the 997TT a couple of weeks so got to know it a fair bit better up there.
Went up through Crickhowell towards Brecon, down the A470 and hung a right towards Penderyn and down towards Treherbert - was grinning like an idiot by the end...

There is also the link from Llandovery to Llangadog and then on to Ammanford.
I have travelled these routes for many years in many different vehicles. I have also noticed that during weekdays these routes are used for police training. I don't know whether these are still popular routes for this purpose. I was once driving on the Ammanford link in a TR3A and found myself catching a Ford Zephyr which was travelling very quickly and using all the road width on the corners. As I got nearer I could see that there were four people in the vehicle. When I got close enough I saw the plate on the back of the vehicle saying it was a police training car. More recently, the cars have been unmarked, but they still travel very quickly.
