Classic car exhaust specialist in Cheshire or Manchester?
Discussion
I'm looking for recommendations for a exhaust specialist, ideally in south Manchester or Cheshire.
I'm trying to sort the exhaust on my 1981 Matra Murena which is in the process of being restored after 10 years off the road. Originally it had a single silencer and exhaust pipe on it for the 4 cylinder engine.
However a previous owner replaced it with a "Devil" type system similar to the pictures.

This is a noisy system, to say the least. Also it is putting out a lot of CO suggesting to me that the manifold may be damaged or leaking from the join with the old part of the exhaust when it connects to the outlet.
My exhaust actually goes into a single silencer, rather than the two in the photo, but similar principle.
When checked it was putting out about 4.0 through the left pipe but over 12 through the right, probably because these were designed to have a left hand side mounted system. It is running a little rich but that doesn't account for such high output.
I need to have a specialist check it over as I don't like these levels of emissions. If I can't get it running right it will all come off and an original one go back on.
Thanks for any advice!

Looking at the manifold on mine, I may have found some of the problem..

JP Exhausts in Cheshire, I'd highly recommend them, they did the exhaust and manifold for my TVR.

I am now a lapsed member of the Matra club, but still have my Murena ! Many years ago a company called Gran Fabrications in Nottingham did the pattern for Murena exhausts .... Nice ones, to replace the original inc manifold etc. not sure if they exist still. Otherwise pm me for the number of the former chairman of the Matra club, Dick. what he doesn't know re Murenas/Bagheeras etc, plus several lock ups of spares isn't worth knowing..

Hadn't read this post when I recommended JP - but Gran Fab also recommended - they are still going but have moved. PM me if you want their number.Edited by rswift on Thursday 4th April 02:49
