Yup, got knocked off today - came off a mini roundabout, attempted to overtake Vauxhall Corsa. As I got level with her drivers door, she suddenly decides to turn right, into a garage. Nothing to hint she was about to turn- no indication, no blind spot check - just turned. Her rear quarter panel, just behind drivers door, collided with my knee first and I was forced back in my seat, and onto the wrong side of the road. By this point the bars were wagging ten to the dozen and I managed to grab the front brake. I managed to slow a bit before the front wheel locked up as I hit the gravel of a driveway, at which point the front end washed out, dropping the bike onto its right hand side and throwing me clear. Both myself and the bike came to rest on the driveway. Another biker stopped and confirmed that she didnt indicate and he's happy to be a witness. All details exchanged, everyone leaves - except me, I had to wait for 2 hours for my girlfriends Dad, who very kindly came out with a trailor and took me home.

re Damage - my bike ; right hand mirror knackered, flyscreen broken, mudguard and tank badly scratched, right hand side plastics broken, front brake lever snapped, frame scratched, crash bars scraped. Damage to me; sore left knee, where it was trapped between car and bike, and left hip sore. My brand new trousers are holed and scuffed, my helmet is scuffed and I havent checked the rest of my kit yet.

Shit happens I guess.

ouch sorry to hear this Dave. At least you are Ok.

if its anything like When I fell off it will hurt more tomorrow

Did the driver admit liability? did they not slow down before the turn which might have sugested a manover was going to take place?

Dave - make sure you claim for the knee damage. I had a similar accident (but with a black cab on the M4!) a few years back. I've had gyp with the knee that got crushed ever since.

Expect about 3.5k for it

PS. This is not a "where there's blame, there's a claim" type stories, but I'd far rather have my knee back the way it was!

Hi Dave, hope you aren't too sore this morning and that there's no major damage to the bike.

Have a good think about what happened. The accident clearly wasn't your fault, but ask yourself if you could or should have done more to anticipate what took place or if you took the right course of emergency action.

Should you have waited until she cleared the garage before making the overtake? Was there anything about her behaviour that may have set alarm bells ringing? What would have happened if you had accelerated rather than braked?

None of this is suggesting fault on your part, but these are the bitter lessons of defensive riding techniques.

Kick the bike straight and get back out on it ASAP.

Hi guys, thanks for the kind words.

Malc. - I agree completely. There was nothing to suggest she was about to manouvre - no indication, no looking in mirrors - nothing. I really didnt expect her to do it. Clearly next time ill wait for the straight to overtake, but as I say, she did nothing to hint her intentions.

Yep I was off yesterday as well, got spat off high side with nobody else to blame apart from myself, came down hard on my head then shoulder before tumbelling and hurting my thigh. Shoulder popped out of socket then back it so that smarts a bit but I've done that a few times before so can live with it however I've got a couple of big eggs on the top of my head and my neck really hurts and is locked up all down one side with occasional shooting pain across the top of my chest. I rode out the pain yesterday with Ibuprofin and alcohol but I think a little trip to A&E later this morning is on the cards after so many people have said "you really should get the neck checked properly" and a complete lack of sleep last night. It wasn't that fast 30-40 at a guess but I landed pretty damm hard, and the bike landed about twenty feet away in field, still rideable with light cosmetic damage.......they crash well these KTM's (well better than I do)

I spent yesterday sulking because I had been looking forward to going to Castle Combe for several weeks, but the whole thing was torpedoed because my girlfriend has managed to get pneumonia and needed looking after. I have to say, based on Mel and Dave's experience, perhaps I was better off on the sofa after all!

If it makes you feel any better chaps, Vermeulen managed to wreck any lingering chances of winning World Supers by falling off on the warm-up lap and Haga binned it (hang on, that's given me an idea for a gag. Dave, do you now ride a Suzuki Binned-it?!!) in a straight line at about 140mph.

So God was clearly not feeling well disposed towards bikers yesterday...

LOL@Suzuki Binned-it !

As for Vermeulen and Haga - yeah, I watched the replays last night at about 11:30. Vermeulen did amazingly well though to fight his way back up the pack to take the position he did.

A lot of it about thse days. I came off a couple of weeks back, swerving to avoid errant Audi TT - you guessed it no signal - which meant I dropped the bike. Missed the car which is a plus, because it hurt less and no major damage to the bike - gear selector, indicator, scuffed fairing and bar-end and clutch lever. Hope you're not suffering too much Dave.

Cheers,

Steve.

Just a bit sore mate - discovering different bits of my anatomy that are slowly starting to hurt - right arm, hip etc. Just counting my lucky stars really - the driveway where I landed had a brick wall one side, picket fence the other and two cars on the drive. How I avoided all of those I dont know - just lucky.

Ive rung my insurance - my legal team will apparently call me back today.

Too bad Dave - least you are in one piece.

A small lesson to learn - do not filter past cars where there is anywhere for them to turn right, including driveways. Expect the unexpected and you'll never come a cropper again.

Doh! atleast your ok dave , buy a cruiser next and fit a bull bar and plough the corsa out of the way if you done some panel damage just think that in a few years after a dodgey respray that corsa will be rotting away and fit for scrap ,Well done

Oorrr
Perhaps youy want to extend your engine bars into a full rollcage

Seriously though, i may be a bit whimpy but i try not to filter as much in towns or heavy traffic anymore , there are just too many brian dead assholes on the road these days with very little or no consideration for anybody but themselves ,

Have you got yourself checked out yet? No excuses mate, you need to do this, healing from injuries is very much determined by what you do soon after they happen.

Hope you get better,

Steve.

I'm back and checked out at the Minor Injuries centre (quicker than A&E) they gave me a good prodding down the spine and as most of the pain is down one side they said "pretty sure its all muscle and soft tissue damage" (arse covering in the "pretty sure" incase in a weeks time it turns out my neck is broken I supose) anyway got given a leaflet on exercises to do and how to sleep properly and got told to hit the Ibuprofin hard and regulary. Don't you just love the NHS, anyway I think its give it a few days then off to the osteo/physio bloke at 30 quid a session.

I hate bloody hospitals they're full of the dregs of society and sick people
