The 1k Boxster!
Discussion
Guy left it standing for 4 years as he thought the gearbox had gone.
Turns out a gearbox oil change has fixed it!
He must be going mad, a £150 job, not 5k as he thought it was.

There was a thread about it at the time and the seller joined up and posted, he wasn't all that bothered about the money.
Here it is, second from the bottom on page 15:

It's only money. Doesn't bother some people when balanced against hassle factor.
As far as the auto box was concerned, I was always advised , " change the oil and filter first, if that doesn't fix it, it will probably be expensive".
I have experienced oil and filter changes curing all sorts of problems on autos.

Good watchin.
Nice to see the underside and which bolts to remove where.
£1000 for lights though. Not needed imo.
Going to go and drive mine now.
Whole new exhaust & cats weren't needed either, nor was the £300 re-trim of the seats (£50 to re-paint driver's seat edge and re-clip it, then swap the seat back with the passenger one) - I'd have left the wheels silver (broader appeal) and just spent half the £300 they did on having them refurbished. So that's getting close to £2000 that could've been saved. I would have had spent some money (£150 of parts?) on a thorough service and brake fluid change though after 4 years standing Nice to see the underside and which bolts to remove where.

.They made it look so easy - no mention of service, radiators/condensors/suspension components, nor did they cover the re-use or replacement of brake pad shims. I'd imagine their programme would entice people to look for a similar car only to discover it needed much of this work doing and leave them crying into their beer.

I find it an interesting programme overall with some good tips and info but like all TV, you need to remember that its for entertainment and will therefore be compromised.
Exactly, I think it is a great programme, but the buying and selling figures are just part of the entertainment. I have watched a couple in the past few weeks where they have made a small profit which would have turned into a massive loss had it not been for the days of free labour put into the car and the strange 'mates rates' deals that they always get on a lot of the parts.Gassing Station | Porsche General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
