According to an interview with AP in Australia, they are seriously considering a Cayman GT3.

Rumours of a manual version for all those missing this feature with the 991GT3s.
No indication of engine size, power etc. Would be awesome with 400 bhp.

What's wrong with calling it a GT3?
If it's a Cayman S with an additional 10bhp and slightly lower suspension then sure, Cayman R job done
But if it's a 3.6 or bigger with 380+bhp and a serious track bias set up then why not!
Because it will totally devalue the GT3 name and what it means. If it's a Cayman S with an additional 10bhp and slightly lower suspension then sure, Cayman R job done

+1. CS is an ideal moniker for these models IMO, summing up perfectly their target market.
I can't understand why not. Its not like GT3 is an only Porsche model name, other companies use it for their more track focused motors. Can't see it devaluing the 911 GT3 at all. Or am I missing something?

dont know why everyone is getting excited,if porsche make a special 981 firstly its at least 2 years away, you will only get 10hp increase in power, bucket seats, sports chassis and a few kgs shed,oh you can have most of that already!!!
as for large power increases according to planet9

I forgot where I heard it, but I do recall that one of the reasons Porsche did not consider higher engine power with the 987 is the car is not designed for the extra heat dissipation and heat soak would be a bigger a problem.
981 chassis has been improved in this respect but I dont think its that big of an improvement.
Venting and cooling really needs to be more like an R8 for a mid engine setup if one is really talking about much higher engine powers.

not sure if the boxster suffers same problem.
plus in the cayman race series cars raced in high tempratures suffer from overheating

I'll eat my hat if they use the GT3 tag on anything other than a 911 .... mostly because they won't be powerful enough to homologate for GT racing (thereby devaluing the moniker)!
If is comes out it'll be another Cayman R - or if it's light enough a Cayman RS - but the marketing department will never let it use anything bigger than the 3.4 litre engine - even if they "uncork" it to the same level as a base 991 Carerra (345/350bhp).

This would be truly great news! Thank to CarAdvice.com.au for this tip, but I shudder to think what the poor folks in Oz would have to pay for such a car after their outrageous luxury car taxes.
If Porsche make this, then I am in. I think that this is the one I've been waiting for.
Now I just need Verizon to buy Vodafone... fingers crossed. You've got two years Verizon...
