The leather on my car is starting to crack in the lateral support (both bum and back)... any advice on how to keep it in good nick?

Someone has suggested vaseline, whilst others suggest a trip to (local car store) and purchasing some AutoGlym stuff...

Any thoughts, ideas or tips...?

I use the autoglym cleaner then the auto-glym feeder. Seems to do the trick, but I suppose only time will tell. I suppose if it's cracked already there's a limited scope for success?

Actually, now that I think about it, since I got the tvr, my garage shelf has come to resemble an auto-glym superstore

It's starting to crack... looks like I'll have to get some feeder for it... see if I can halt it's progress.

How often are you treating it?

Not often, to be fair, but I don't use it everyday. First of all, I was amazed how much muck (for want of a better word) came off with the leather cleaner (which was a clear liquid, iirc). The feed was a cream which rubbed in and did seem to make things more supple.

I did resolve at the time to do it every six months or so, though I've heard others say a year. I'd probably do it more if it was open top.

Whatever - thanks for the tip... will go shopping after work.

I know what you mean about the cleaner, as I've used that too... it's like peeling layers of brake dust off the alloys...

Vaseline for your bum crack? Not good. Not good at all.

Follow the link:

They have all the stuff you need - I use the Cleaner and Conditioner and have to say they are superb - even brings back the smell of leather.

Hope it helps

Don't know if they ship to the UK or not but this stuff...

www.leatherique.com

is the best - bar none. Use it in the Esprit and the wife's Jag. Even reconstitutes that "new leather smell"

I'll second the liquid leather products (GT11 & GT12), which I use regularly. The conditioner leaves a matt finish and the smell.... I've tried various other leather care products, including Autoglym and Zymol. Most leave a greasy residue on the surface and/or are a pain in the @rse to apply.

I've used both Liquid Leather and Autoglym and they're both good. I tend to use Liquid Leather 2 part cleaner and conditioner for my Cerbera interior as it leaves that addictive smell.

But if the leather's cracking IMHO you're better off using some Connolly Hide food. Downside is that it takes longer to apply as you have to leave it overnight. I used it on the leather of my Healey and it brought back the leather to life better than anything. I still use Liquid Leather on a fairly regular basis but keep the Connolly hide food for occasional applications when the leather starts looking a bit 'rough'.

I heard somewhere that Connolly had gone into receivership though. Don't know how true this is and whether you can still get the hide food.
