I recently fitted a ClubSport cage to my 996 GT3 MKII.
I'm trying to fit harnesses so bought the sub-bars (part number 996.521.933.90)

The problem is I also need to buy seat belt fixings for each seat:-

Part numbers 996.521.925.90 Set of fastening parts seat-belt buckle inner
Part numbers 996.521.927.90 Set of fastening parts seat-belt buckle outer

While the substantially made sub bars themselves are only £50.60 from an OPC, each fixing kit is £133.24 and I'll need 4 of them!

So I was just wondering if everyone just bites the bullet and pays up or if there is an alternative (I do get 10% off parts at an OPC). I'm not going to the hassle of having them custom made or anything. I've emailed Bray Krause and waiting to hear from them too.

Also if anyone has some kits or a harness for sale PM me.

Cheers

Hi, a bit confused here. Did you already have bucket seats in the car or have you recently bought a set of buckets without these parts?

If your car already has buckets fitted then you should not need anything apart from the harness bar. I installed this in a previous GT3 with leather buckets without buying the additional bits. They are already on the bucket seats.

I already have the bucket seats but it's a comfort spec car. So how does the sub-bar attach to the seat without the additional bolts, and how do the lap belts attach to the sides?

Hi - in that case I am quite sure you do not need additional bits. The comfort buckets are the same as the Clubsport buckets but covered in leather instead of nomex.
I am also assuming you have Schroth 996 GT3 harnesses.

Start with the pasenger seat (if you are doling both seats)

You will probably need to take the entire seat out. This is fairly stratight forward. Take out the whole seat/runner assemnbly together. There are just 4 screws (on item 12) for this - however, the screws have a star type of head for which you will need to get a socket from your local garage (e.g. halfords).

The rear two screws on the base runner can be seen if you push the seat all the way forward. To access the front two screws you will need to remove the plastic housing on the front of the seat runners (push the seat all the way back).

Once you remove these 4 screws the seat is loose. Once loose, you can tilt the seat sideways and remove the side seatbelt bolt. The passenger seat should be free to be lifted out of the car now. The driver seat may have a cable attached at the base. This is a detector for an occupant in case of an accident. I never managed to disconnect this properly and I believe I read somewhere that it could 'mess up the airbag warning light'. If you feel nervous to remove this then you might have to do the rest with the seat in the car. Be sure to put some cloth or towels by the side panels (e.g. sill, centre console) of the seats to avoid any internal scratches whilst you handle the seats.

The sub bar attaches to the twin screw holes at the front of item 10 in the schematic in your original post. IIRC, you just need to remove the front bolts on the seat which attach to item 10, and loosen the rear two bolts without removing them. This will allow you to tilt the seat backward from the frame 10 and mount the the sub bar. I believe the screws for the twin holes are already in item 10. Refit the seat to item 10. Whilst the seat is out, you should also attach the crotch strap from your harness.

The side straps should attach to the side seat belt post on the outside (item 13), and the seat belt post on the inside where you have the seat belt socket. Both bolts will need to be unscrewed, the side lap belts installed, and the seat belt socket/seat belt reattached. You may need to remove a washer which is superfluous once you have installed the side straps (you may not be able to tighten the side bolts with the washer in place).

Then reattach the seat runner to the floor and you should be there....now the next seat...

Anyway, the above is from memory so use your judgement if I have missed anything or you think there is a better way of doing it.

So the screws should already be there and are long enough to fix the sub bars to item 10, same for the side fixings?

Great, thank you very much for the whole write-up.
Ill give it a try this weekend and let you know how it goes. beer

Hi,
I have a comfort with buckets and have done exactly the same as you.
Mike from Sports and Classic did the cage and belt install for me, but I only had to buy the sub bars, no other fixing kits.
Would you like me to take a couple of pictures of my install for you?
Jack

Hi Jack,

That would be great if you could, thank you!

I think the seatbelt catch is part of the seat assembly, in which case each seat will have a cable to the per-tensioner which is part of this catch (the passenger seat will also have an occupancy sensor). You should be fine to unplug these without affecting the airbag light, providing the ignition remains switched off until everything is back in place. So it's a good idea to maker sure the keys are out of the ignition and/or disconnect the battery.

I'll remember that, thanks

These are all pics from the drivers side:
Buckle side

Belt side

Red belts are harness, blue belts are IR.

Hope that helps. Let me know if you need anything else.

That's perfect Jack thanks!

It looks like I could do everything without removing the seats? (with some difficulty) or am I dreaming?
Also I read somewhere that the harnesses are 'sided' and in fact each side has a different part number, is that true or are they interchangeable?

I don't think the sets are handed. But the buckles (if you are using Schroth) are definitely handed and have to be arranged in a certain way around the locking mechanism.

Download the Schroth instruction manual ( http://www.schrothracing.com/sdocs/2009_Competitio... )for the webbing diagrams and the layout.

Hi Jack,

Thanks for the link. It all makes sense except how to attach the harness to the sub bar, I can't make it out from their instructions and I can't quite see from your pics. Could you take a pic or describe it to me?

Luckily (or is it standard) all the bits of the harness have tiny sticky labels on the buckles so I know exactly where they all slot in.

Hi,
What do you have in the end of the sub straps at the moment? A buckle with an eyelet in it? Or just a double-slotted buckle?
You just attach them to the sub bar using the same webbing method as you attach the shoulder straps to the cage. The hard part is getting them the right length as by the nature of the webbing they are difficult to slide up and down the straps.

Hi Jack,

Just straps with a buckle. It's all in now, I fitted them using the same method as I connected the straps to the cage - which is what you've just advised me.

Thanks for all your and everyone else's help!
