Cant get what I want out of my Escort RS Cosworth so I have a choice.
Keep the Cosworth as a classic ( I do still love the old thing) and buy a manual 996tt 2004 ish with some goods mods done to it.
Or
Sell the Cosworth and but a 2007/2008 Bentley Continental GT
Dilemma ....what would you do.
I have had a 650bhp 911 TIP not long back????? The more I think about it the harder it gets. Continental W12 GT is some car but so is a 911??

I believe that this might be the strangest question I have ever seen on here!

Unless you've had a serious bump on the head recently, definitely keep the Cossie and get the 996t, you know it makes sense, surely.
A friend of mine who owns a car dealership recently took in a Bentley, which he insisted on using; the guys who work for him really ripped into him, saying some days he looked like the Lord Mayor driving around and on other days, one of our premiership footballers, all depending on what he was wearing.
IMHO, Bentleys give out the wrong vibe, but hey, if you really fancy one, get one, but please keep the Cossie.
Good Luck.
Some good points there guys.....
Angelus: Yes I was quite comfortable with the 911 when it came to understanding the running's of it. A continental has IIRC 33 control ECU's and over 12 interface modules.
Hi Leigh: My heart says GT but my head says 911
Probably will have to sell the Cosworth if I went 911 though as you know it will only end up at Kens. TBH its been over 12 years ago I last had an RS Cosworth and there not all that much fun as I remember they used to be to drive. I love them but ?
Graemel: I personally like the looks of the GT but they are a little plain tbh They look great from certain directions.
Molly: lol Beauty is in the eye of the beholder....its not the performance that I love about the RS its its heritage and looks. I did want to have a silly BHP Cosworth I do admit but since that's not possible for the type of driving I do I'm in a dilemma.
Carcrazypop: I do see your point here, I have never liked the snobbish side of car ownership and if you took one look at me I could never be taken for either a high flyer or a footballer. Perhaps an overweight stand up comic .lol. It is however something that I have reflected upon.
Thanks all.
Some points there I hadn't thought of properly....especially the price and complexed repairs that could be required if things go wrong. The other thing in the back of my mind is there are 2900kg tanks

To the OP, ignore what other people may think of the car, and just buy what you want.Unless you've had a serious bump on the head recently, definitely keep the Cossie and get the 996t, you know it makes sense, surely.

Besides, it's amazing how people's opinions change, when they can actually afford the object they are commenting on.....
EDIT; this comment isn't aimed at carcrazypop, just his observation.

The wife seems to know already I will be going for another 996t uhh women and their physic abilities, what she doesn't seem to have worked out is I wamt to keep the cosworth as well. However I know the level of 911 I want is going to cost near £42k after 9E have breathed on it. I cant justify having both.
A conti GT is about £30k for a good 2005 model, I could have the Cosworth at that price .
Martian: lol yes very nice classic.
Hi Andy ( EvoSlayer); I'm doing OK , there will never be any improvement only a slow worsening of my general ability to breath. I though powerful cars would be impossible for me to drive and breath at the same time , but it seems G force from acceleration isn't an issue. I sold my last 996t for that reason and also tbh I had enough of the Tiptronic box, just had to go back to manual.
Audi Quattro , I wonder if they are still as special t drive now as back then? They were the "Daddy" and set the trend for the Cosworth and many other rally cars to come.
AndyBrew: Mines White as well, do you wish you had just kept it no matter what? I really don't want to sell mine but I would prefer as my daily driver either a GT or another 911.
Andyeds: Thanks, I've never been in a position before to contemplate such exotic cars, but with some spare cash and the second hand car market values being so bad , I've just got to have a bash at another exotic sports car.

I have been through part of this dilemma. I sold a mint Sierra Cosworth after many years/100K miles of ownership and tuning and bought a 996.
I have been very happy with Porsches, BUT I really wish I had kept the Cosworth for the following reasons:
Its a British Classic.
It was never so valuable that it was precious.
They will appreciate for ever.
All of the mechanics/electrics could be handled by a competent engineer.
Most spares were incredibly cheap.
Tuning was relatively simple and if it broke, it was always repairable.
It was a hoot on full boost and nothing like a 996TT
It could seat 4 people with ease.
If I had the same choice again I would keep the Cossy for fun and find a way of funding another toy.

Hello mate,
I can understand your dilemma.
I have done a fair bit of homework on that special purchase when i leave the forces in the not too distant future. I'm leaning towards a V8V at the minute but have also considered a GT as well. From what i can gather there is a certain amount of 'Bentley tax' when you need servicing, consumables etc etc. A lot of which i really can't see how the prices of thing can be justified. Needless to say, be prepared to have your pants pulled down if something goes wrong. I know they suffer from water ingress onto on of the ECU's which can be catastophic should it go wrong.
Anyway, in order to make way for something like this i would have to get rid of my Sierra Cosworth. Iv'e had it for 17 years and for the past decade at least it probably only done around 3000 miles. It sits in the garage under a cover and gets wheeled out for the MOT wheni get round to it.
But i just don't want to part with it, it's in fantastic condition and people are always asking about it.
Each to there own and all that but for my 2p worth i think you would regret getting rid.
Good luck with your decision.

A 996 turbo and a Continental GT are totally different beasts. Allow me to say that maybe you're a bit confused...Handling, performance, elegance... 911.
Presence, comfort... CGT.
Don't for one minute think there is one thing and one thing only that i'm looking for. I'm living with a different Karma these days as I was when I first joined PH. Nothing is as it seems only what you make it.
Pugley: If I said anymore than you just said I would spoil what you said. Totally agree which is why I must strive to keep the Cosworth as a garage queen.

I sold mine to a friend when the Focus RS Mk2 came out, at the time I needed to sell it to avoid getting a loan on the RS so didn't have much choice. Still love the look of them and money no object and a garage big enough to house 10 cars an Escort Cossie would be one of 'em!Muffster said:

17 years is a long time to own a Cosworth, you would definitely miss it if you sold her.
Ideally I would like to garage the Cosworth and polish it every Sunday afternoon.lol
