My annual NT membership arrived today with a note at the bottom saying that my membership qualifies for gift-aid.

That got me thinking, would my 'donation' be allowable on my tax return?

Kudos

All donations to legitimate registered charities are eligible for Gift Aid and/or further tax relief through Self Assessment.

You could also be due a rebate for earlier tax years, though not sure the hassle is worthwhile if its just the 1 subscription you have missed.

Of no real benefit to you unless you are a Higher Rate Taxpayer or close to the income levels where Higher rate Tax kicks in.

The main beneficiaries of tax relief on charitable giving are the charities themselves - which is only right.

Indeed, it's not a huge amount but as I'm PAYE I prefer to do my tax return with HMRC owing me a small amount. If I don't do that I invariably (and this has happened twice before) end up 'owing' something around £1 that I pay, only for them to then refund me the same amount a few months later. I find submitting a few donations a useful way around this charade.
