'Breakdown' recovery for cyclists?

I'm with the RAC for my vehicles, I have a personal policy that covers me in any vehicle. I was wondering if they would cover me out on my bike? Say if I had a mechanical failure in the middle of nowhere? Cannot see cycles mentioned on their website, anyone got any experience?

Just carry a small toolkit, credit card, phone and a few quid of cash.

Toolkit should cover punctures, a multi tool, some zip ties, and ideally a magic link & chain tool. Most things can be bodged into a get-you-home state with the above - if needs be go on a course to learn basic mechanics..

In the worst case, call for a taxi or walk it to the nearest station.

I don't think I've ever been truly stranded. Almost everything can be bodged on a bike, and then you only have to go a few miles to get a bus or train or call your mate to pick you up in a car!

All of us should stop and help a cyclist in trouble. I've fixed a puncture for one lad and given a spare chain link to another. It should be incorporated into the rules.

Otherwise, carry a tube, patches, tyre levers, pump, multi tool and a mobile phone!

I actually get it with my bicycle insurance, via velosure. Not had to use it yet, normally just call the team support vehicle out from home! It does however cost me 600 quid a year, so when I do use it I expect to be rescued by Nicole Scherzinger (sp?) in a thong, to keep me warm and wrapped in a Heather Locklear blanket.
