Best place for holidays
Discussion
Like to take my wife for a European Vacation (she has never been out of the US). Start with a trip to Scotland (to visit my relatives), on to Cote D'Azure. Maybe a stop in Monte Carlo and then the German Rhineland (I spent considerable amount of time in Germany when I was a youngster). The whole thing would have to take at least three months (three weeks or so in each location) with a Nanny in tow to watch the kids so the wife and I could enjoy the nightlife (money no object, right?)
Had to edit - almost forgot - considerable "spending money" as well...

If money is no object, you don't wanna be thinking of which country - but of which hotel. The Mrs and I spent our honeymoon last year in a hotel called Amandari in the Balanese rainforests. Some examples of the service we got:
* We returned from dinner on our first full day there, to find orchids scattered around the bed, candles floating in the sunken bath (which was outside, by the way, in the private garden!) and cut pieces of fruit with a chocolate dipping sauce.
* The next day as we were walking to the pool, a woman walked up to us and said 'Mr and Mrs Picknell?'. (Do they pass round photos and this kind of gaff? How come everyone knew who we were?) Anyway. She introduced herself as the hotel's chef, congratulated us on our marriage, and asked us if we had any particular likes or dislikes food-wise. I've never even seen the chef at other hotels I've stayed at!
* When-ever we wanted to visit the local villages, they chauffeured us there (air conditioned Toyota 4x4). When we wanted to come back we just gave them a call, told them where we were, and they came and collected us. No charge.
* We arranged a trip to the coast (chauffeur driven, of course) to take a quick boat cruise and go snorkelling. There were five of us on the boat - myself, the Mrs, and three crew.
* The hi-fi in our villa could play multiple CDs, but it I couldn't seem to get anything other 'slot 1' to work. When walking to the restarant one evening I mentioned this to one of the staff (basically saying that I couldn't work out how to use it). By the time we'd got back from dinner there was a completely different hi-fi in the room.
Now you have to pay for that kind of service. But you did say "money being no object".

Actually, it may not be exotic, but let's remember there are some beautiful and interesting places you can go in the UK for a short break, too - or string a few together for a full length holiday...
Sometimes I just can't face going abroad.. mainly because I hate the rigmarole of flying (airports, transfers, delays, crap food, expensive beer etc..).

Carzee is right though. After taking holidays abroad, throwing everything in the back of the car and driving to some cottage in a nice part of the UK is about a million percent more relaxing (a Dad writes). Last year we stayed in a lighthouse up near Tyneside and it was the most relaxing break I've ever had. Off to Shropshire next month.
