Best Racing Car Colour?
Discussion
I've got a Locost racer which I'll be painting for next season. At the moment it's got orange wings, nose cone and scuttle and the rest is black. It looks quite dated and tired now and needs updating.
I'm torn between metallic blue with a silver stripe, black with a silver stripe or black all over.
What do you think? Any other suggestions?

Thanks for the input.
I agree the Gulf scheme was a classic, but I'm not sure how it will transfer to a narrow-nosed car, it got a lot of visual impact from the width.
I'll be painting it myself, so it should keep it cheap.
I think it'll be black (easy to maintain) with a contrasting stripe over the bonnet and down the back, maybe silver like the MG Touring cars.

Ahh so does your budget consist of
1 x paintbrush
1 x Tin of Black metal paint
1 x Tin of Sliver metal paint
6 x Cans of beer....

Black with a stripe (especially silver) looks incredibly dated, so go for something brighter, like yellow, with a stripe and crash zones in easy-peasy matt black , like this
MMMM needs some pink on it.. i'll see what i can do

From personal experience, go for a solid colour, esp. when you consider having to pay for a respray - keeps the costs down! Don't have a stripe, it'll also add money to a respray, keep it simple. I also wanted a 'Gulf' style paint job, but then thought that it wouldn't look good with "all that sponsorship" I'd have on it... yeah right! Then decided on a green, akin to the green that Henri Pescarolo uses on his Le Mans cars. Ideally you want to stand out from other competitors - there are usually loads of red, black and blue cars... It really helps your team or anyone timing you or watching for you entering the pits.. It helps them a great deal. Unless you've got lots of cash spare and even then spend it on something else like tyres, spares or maybe timing equipment instead of a 'flashy' paintjob.
