Classic car tax to move to pre 74 cars

Little late but long overdue they really should come in line with most of the rest of Europe and re introduce a 30 year rolling exemption.
When we buy a new car we then dont exacty start adding to the countrys coffers for a number of years except fuel which they get most of anyway and VAT on servicing.
Where those of us with 70s cars are spending £1000s on restorations and adding to the economy creating jobs and paying VAT on those projects.
I guess all in i will spend 25k this year alone on restorations and i know others will spend way beyond that then use the roads sparingly and still pay the same road tax as new cars.

Very good news, but they have only moved the cut off by one year, there is no mention of 30 years rolling on, but lets hope now that by moving one year this year, it's repeated in the future.


For sad people like me it's point 2.148 of the budget statement on page 84.

It says
2.148 VED classic vehicle exemption. The Goverment will extend the cut off date from which classic vehicles are exempt from VED by one year. From April 2014 a vehicle manufactured before 1 January 1974 will be exempt from paying VED
