Experience of SRAM 2X10

Has anyone got any experience of using SRAM 2x10?

I'm thinking of switching from Shimano to try and get better reliability and I never use the granny cog

I currently have:

XT-R rear mech
Deore front mech
Deore shifters

I find they constantly need tuning

Is the grass greener on the SRAM side?

currently running XT 2x10, havent touched it since the bike was built in the summer of 2012, no experience of SRAM 2x10 but cant recommend XT highly enough, I think SLX 2x10 is well stocked now too.... have a look on bike-discount for some good deals on groupsets without brakes, there is another German place thats quite cheap too but i cant remember the name!

aww I never knew you XT 2x10, cheers for that! Would mean I could keep my current cassette

Got 3x10 SRAM X0 on mine and have not touched anything since last summer when I got the bike. Love the push-push shifter action and find it much better than the Shimano stuff I've had (SLX/XT mix) - easier to one finger brake.

That said if all you want is to move to 2x10 it seems daft to change everything. You may even be able to get away with using the same front shifter and mech. A couple of new chainrings.

I'm currently running SRam 2x9 on my geared mountain bike, not a problem with it, the same old keep on going SRam gear changes there always was. My cyclocross is running 2x10 also on SRam, and again never a problem. The 1:1 cable is still good technology, it just works and works simply.

SRAM 2x10 on my Whyte. I really like it, much simpler and clunky than Shimano, but set and forget. There's a real positive feel to the operation.

1:1 is the pull ratio on the shifter / mech. Sram introduced it a few years ago.

Sram and Shimano cassettes are completely interchangable, so you wouldnt need to swap everything to go 2x10 with sram!

Oh, and in answer to the OP, I rate Sram stuff highly. Been using 1x10 X9 on my trail bike for 2 years, and also run Sram Force on my road bike. Excellent kit.

So I would need:

Rear Mech
Front Mech
Shifters
Chainset

I already have a SRAM chain
and keep my shimano 10 speed cassette

I had XO on everything, except an X9 shifter. I liked it all but much preferred the Sram Double tap shifter that I had on my road bike (different class in my opinion), was easier to use, especially on a long ride when my hands were starting to ache and I wanted to change from 3rd to 2nd to 1st (I really had to force it).

If you don’t have the aching hand issue you will be fine but changing up is much harder than changing down (or the other way around, I forget which is which).

I run a mix of xt and x9. Shifters and rear mech x9 and the rest xt. Love 2x10 find that when on a trail the right gear is only a click away (notice my friends crunching away with 3x, especially when fast into a climb). Rosebikes is the cheap German place to get kit from, very good!

SRAM X0 3x9 on my XC bike. Never needed touching in 3 years.

SRAM Rival on my last road bike, SRAM Force with Di2 on my new road bike. Can you tell that I am an SRAM fan?

Neither Shimano or SRAM should need constant adjustment.

I'd recommend buying decent cables and saving the rest of your money.

Which bits are which, as SRAM don't do a Di2 groupset.

The cogs front and back are SRAM Force, the levers and mechs are Shimano Di2.

The brakes are Ultegra (and look stunning).
