Thinking of buying an EOS 7D

I currently have an EOS 40D but am looking for a camera that will do both still and video. The 7D look pretty good but I'm open to suggestions. Have a budget of up to £1K

I also have a 40D and consider that the only worthwhile upgrade, at least without going full frame, is the 7D.

Out of interest, why do you want one thing to do both? A decent compact HD camcorder will cost you a lot less than the price-to-change and will give better video output.

I upgraded from a 50D to a 7D and was very impressed. I've since added a 5D mk2 and am even more impressed!

If you have EF lenses and don't need the fast fps rate and AF of the 7D I'd consider a 5D mk2... I picked mine up mint condition for £850 used

Are there camcorders with depth of field settings? The quality of glass that you can put on an eos body?

There are pro films recorded on the 7D it's that good.

60D - does almost all of what 7D does.
Love mine - though I hated it when I first got it, I also own 7D though will probably trade 7D sometime soon.

I prfer my 5D mk 1&2 for stills but for video I use the 7d almost as much as the 5D mk2. Horses for courses and all that.

For stills, the low light high ISO (1600 and up) ability isnt great but other than that its a good piece of kit.

60d might be a more economical way to go if you dont need the AF or (albeit limited) weathersealing of the 7D, the end results (ie your pictures) are probably near as damn it identical.

It depends on your point of view, this is a ISO 3200 shot. I don't think the 7d is that bad! The photo is also shot handheld, manually focus with a 2x converter on a 100-400mm. so all in all it copes quick well with low light.
