'Action' video cameras - questions

I haven't owned a video camera for years - but am a keen stills photographer using a Leica digital.

Reading the GoPro thread here got me noodling though cameras and realising how little I know!

The GoPro range look a bit too serious so I was looking at the Polaroid XS-100 which seems a neat camera.

I'd want something waterproof for splashing around with the kids and something I could put on a car.

Is the Polaroid any good?

How much video (time) can these things take on an SD card?

Other models I should look at?

Personally I would get a second hand Go Pro h2 or Contour HD from ebay for £150.
