Silver - too bland?...
Discussion
Would you buy a 996 turbo in silver or do you feel they look too bland?
Not seen one in the flesh but they seem ok on the photos.
I had my heart set on a black turbo, but it seems a very well looked after silver one has popped up locally and a decent price - so, would silver be a compromise too far?

I had a polar silver 996t and it looked superb when cleaned up, and also stays looking good longer. As said many times before, black looks great when clean but is a PITA to keep that way.
But as always, go with what you like.
Good Luck.

Cleaned my Silver 996T yesterday. The amount of dirt that came off was unbelievable thanks to a couple of trips on the M4. The thing is that it looked pretty clean before I started. Therefore I can confirm that silver hides dirt, and I think it looks good on a 996 as the colour helps diffuse the size and shape of the headlights.
I've had a black car. Something everyone should do once, IMO. Not something I'd do twice though. It looks clean for the first 20 minutes after you've washed it.
I always thought seal grey was the nicest colour for a 996, but I ended up with polar silver, which I now love. Would also consider polar silver.
Would also consider speed yellow, but Mrs 66 would have my bags packed and by the front door as soon as I pulled up outside the house.

Only you can answer that. I personally don't like silver, but as already stated it is a great colour for looking clean for longer and hiding minor marks and scratches. The dark colours look better (to me) when clean, but they don't stay that way for long!
I do think it is really boring when you see processions of Fords/Mercs in silver, but a Porsche 911 Turbo is a pretty unusual car anyway, so it matters less if it is in a boring/common colour.
I don't expect it would effect your resale value, either. It tends to be the more unusual/individual colour combinations that are effected, so silver should be safe enough.

Silver... bland? As apposed to the alternatives of Seal Grey, Dark Grey, Thunder Grey, Moonlight Grey, Light Grey, Almost Grey, Really Dark Grey, or black?911s aren't popular in non bland colours. Occasional yellow and red ones emmerge, but they are rare.
996 Turbos looks best in silver though I think.
Thanks all - need to really think this through - if I saw one in the flesh I would know. I'll go and see one once I'm back home later in the week and then go and see a black one.
I've had a black car previously and seeing all the stone chips clearly on the front used to annoy me...
In terms of resale difficutly, it doesn't sound like silver will be an issue.
Is there any particular interior colours which will prove a headache re resale with silver - e.g. tan, red, blue? Black interior is obviously the safe option.

I had an Arctic Silver Boxster and I now have a 996 C4S in the same colour and think it looks great if a little anonymous. Got to say though I think Polar Silver looks slightly better probably due to it's relative rarity compared to all the Arctic Silver cars. I didn't specifically seek out silver when looking it just happened to be the best one I saw.
As for resale I guess the more muted cars are easier to sell, but it wasn't a factor in my decision and given a choice I think i'd have picked Cobalt Blue as it stands out more.
